Just a mind-blowing article if you haven't read it already:

http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/the-kill-team-20110327

I don't really come in to this part of the forums much, but I was curious as to what people thought about this article. You have got to read the whole thing, but it seems really tragic to me what is going on over there. I'm not sure if it's the battle conditions that turn people into monsters like this or are they crazy to begin with and our military isn't doing a very good job of screening people before handing them weapons and training them in their use. I'm tired of people blaming violent video games. Some one needs be be accountable for letting this stuff go on and then covering it up. It kills me to think that some of these people end up being a representation of Americans in the eyes of these victims families.

FYI, the photos are VERY graphic... just a fair warning for those with a weaker stomach. You don't have to look at them to read the article, the words are graphic enough.

They did a piece on this article on Morning Joe the other day but I haven't had a chance to read it yet. Thanks for posting the link. I'm looking forward to reading it. I believe the author of this article, Mark Boal, also wrote the screenplay for The Hurt Locker.

I read it and saw the pics earlier. Sick b*stards.
They should give the Afghani father an automatic weapon and put those 4 in the field......really makes me sick.

In the shadows
I don't know where to begin with this.

I am disgusted,

Gibbs needs a beat down as well as every troop below in his command.

The officers who turned a blind eye to this will slither away, just as they did in the Tillman case.

Excellent Comment listed below the article:

It's very easy for people who get to go home every night, sleep in a warm bed, live a relatively safe civilian life, and enjoy the freedoms that others have fought and died for, to bash these soldiers for what they've done without fully understanding the circumstance. Yes, what they did was wrong, and there is no excuse for it, but it's also wrong to put yourself on a pedestal above these individuals and call them inhuman when you have never been in a similar situation and cannot say with 100% certainty that you would not have acted similarly. Now, granted most people wouldn't and don't, but if you've never been there, then you can't say you wouldn't have done that. It's even worse to generalize the acts of a few individuals onto the entire military when 99.99% percent of the individuals serving in uniform are holding themselves to significantly higher moral and physical standards than their civilian counterparts. It is sad when a few individuals decide to fall below that standard, but this should also not be viewed as something that has not happened in every war that has ever been fought in history. The difference now is that we have the information technology and media capability for the civilians at home to find out. The truth is that there are hundreds of thousands of American soldiers who do the right thing and work very hard every day to accomplish the task that their government (elected by you the civilians) assigns them, and they feel equally ashamed when they see that some of their counterparts aren't doing the same.
