Try as I might, I just can't hate this guy or this program. Tough for me to admit being the huge 'Bama fan that I am.
Going back to August there was no way, NO WAY that LSU was supposed to go through this season undefeated. Not only did they start the season with 3 road games against Top 25 opponents, Offensive Co-ordinator Steve Kragthorpe was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and had to give up play calling duties. QB Jordan Jefferson was arrested and suspended on assault charges. WR Russell Shepard was suspended by the NCAA. Yet the Bayou Bengals just blew through their schedule to another undefeated season (with 3 wins over Top 10 programs). Damned impressive indeed.
My two other favorite teams are Memphis and Indiana in all sports but I am all in on my Crimson Tide. When Tennessee, Florida, Auburn or Notre Dame lose it puts a smile on my face. I don't feel that way about LSU. I hate that we are in the same division as the Tigers, but I love the rivalry. I'm probably in the minority of 'Bama fans when I say that I root for LSU. I know that almost everyone in the SEC hates Alabama and the LSU rivalry was kicked up a notch when Nick Saban returned to coach college football at the Capstone.
I've only been to one game in Baton Rouge but it was one helluva time. LSU fans can be rabid and crazy (and all fan bases have these fringe fans) but most are just passionate and incredibly friendly. I was invited to no less than a dozen tailgate parties as I walked around waiting for kick-off. Yes I was heckled some but that was to be expected. I never once felt threatened or uncomfortable. It was a great time and I hope that I can make it back down one day.
Again, just a fantastic coaching job by Les Miles and his staff this season. Hopefully my Crimson Tide will get a rematch in the BCS National Championship game.
Geaux Tigers and Roll Tide!
