Last night I tuned into local news to get some coverage, and they had a 5 minute photo essay filled with images of the flag waving, eagles flying, troops doing what they do with "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" playing in the background.
If CBS or someone wants to put together a "Rally for America" show, advertise it as such, and put it on, fine. But during the news? How 'bout some news, instead.
Really, its just important to realize in these things that what the military and administration say on TV is rarely true (with good reasons, I might add). On the other hand, people who oppose the military action and the president are not necessarily laying on the truth either.
Example: "60 Minutes" last week showed a story in which Stormin' Norman during the frist gulf war indicated we had shot down 37 out of 37 Scuds with Patriot Missiles. They talked to analysts from MIT that indicated we had shot down ZERO out of 37 scuds. Regardless of which side was right, you got someone on the TV telling you the complet eopposite of what someone else is saying. Someone is either lying or mistaken. [btw, the US has admitted the patriots weren't quite as effective as we were led to believe in the first war]
Lots of impressive language comes out of these things (smart bombs, surgical strikes, etc.) but the reality can be quite different.
