will be about the nanotechnology sector. We
believe now is the time to do your due diligence on this sector. Nanotechnology
will have a big impact on almost all industries. What does the prefix "nano"
means? Nano refers to a billionth of something, usually a unit of measurement.
A nanosecond is therefore a billionth of a second; and so on.So what exactly is nanotechnology? The nanotechnology realm is defined as being
between 0.1 and 100 nanometers, a nanometer being one thousandth of a micron,
which is, in turn, one thousandth of a millimeter or one billionth of a meter.
Nanotechnology is the application of science to control matter at the molecular
level. Technologies that perform at a micro-level are not nanotechnology in the
true sense because they are measured in millionths, not billionths, of meters.

It is important to realize that the impact of nanotechnology is not restricted
to a specific industry, as well as to understand its diversity. Nanotechnology
is an enabling technology; just like for example the Internet. Nanotechnology
is a field that is poised to create dramatic advances in a variety of industries.
Life sciences, consumer products, tools, materials and manufacturing, energy,
electronics and information technology; all will be affected in one way or an
other by nanotechnology.

Over the last years we are seeing an increase in government spending on nanotechnology
research. In addition, big technological companies are investing a lot of money
in setting up divisions that are researching nanotechnology and developing tools
and applications using this technology. Once people understand its full impact,
this sector will get the attention it deserves and more.

In the November 2001 issue of the influential magazine Red Herring nanotechnology
is named as one of the top ten trends for 2002. "Nanotechnology is coming in
from the fringe. Once dismissed as just so much science fiction and Silicon Valley
hokum, nanotechnology now represents no less than the next industrial revolution.
If you are looking for analogies to put the impact of nanotech into context,
I'd say the invention of the internal combustion engine is a good one," says
Tim Harper, a venture capitalist that runs an early-stage nanotech fund and nanotechnology
conference group in Madrid, in the Red Herring.

Big financial institutions are already testing the water. On September 7th Merrill
Lynch released "The Next Small Thing: An Introduction to Nanotechnology." The
six-page report, available to clients online, outlines the emerging field of
nanotechnology and states that investment opportunities are closer than many
in the market realize.

--- Ground Floor Opportunity ---

Nanotechnology is still very much a "ground floor" opportunity, but this is also
what makes it very interesting. Early investments in the right companies can
deliver huge returns.

ALTI)

About Altair
Altair owns a proprietary technology for making nanocrystalline materials of unique quality, and in bulk quantities. The technology may also be used to make paint pigment, and the process may enjoy environmental and operating cost advantages over competitors. Altair has acquired mineral leaseholds and is conducting pilot plant operations to assess economic feasibility for mining operations on a major titanium mineral sand occurrence in Tennessee. The company's other principal asset is the Altair Centrifugal Jig, an environmentally friendly technology with potential applications in mining, coal treatment and environmental remediation.

The Altair Focus
Following the acquisition of nanoparticle processing technology from BHP Minerals International in November 1999, Altair has directed the company activities to prioritize the production and sale of nanoparticle products. A new division ? Altair Technologies ? has been formed, a nanoparticle management team has been established, and corporate resources are being enhanced and redistributed to support this effort.

Altair Acquisitions
Altair has pursued an aggressive program of acquiring valuable assets when they become available. Initially the company acquired a patented centrifugal jig for recovering fine materials, then a "World Class" titanium ilmenite mineral occurrence, and finally a titanium pigment technology to convert ilmenite from the orebody into pigment. With these three acquisitions Altair is positioned to become vertically integrated in the titanium pigment business.
