What this fellow allegedly done (i only say allegedly because i hear of to many heros' that turn out to be press or gov't creations. Jennifer Lynch and Pat Tillman are two that come to mind)was a nobel thing to do and he should be called a hero if this is the case but why do i have to know he was a survivor of the Holocaust? The guy is a hero if the reports are true but every time its mention the Holocaust is to? Somebody help me here. What do the two of these things have to do with each other? I mean one day of mentioning these two things together is enough but every single time they mention this professor they have to throw in the Holocaust?

you`re kidding....right?...

"It is a poor reflection on us that, in those first critical seconds where one has to make a decision, only an elderly Holocaust survivor, Professor Librescu, understood instinctively the obligation to act."

For starters, you may want to tone down your viewing of all the coverage. Everything gets overdone, not just this story. It's your fault for letting it get to you.

As for the hero professor, I find the holocaust part of his story fascinating. It definitely provides background on who the man was. I wouldn't be surprised if that life experience helped give him courage in those crucial moments.

Come on Sponge, you actually felt the need to start an entire thread about criticizing the biography of the hero teacher?

im asking an honest question here. If this was me as the teacher im sure i wouldn't have run and hid in the closet. I probably would have hid under my desk, picked it up and charged the guy.
This is all about instincts and to link them both together is a bit strange to me. And Smurph you would be surprised but i think out of everyone on this site i probably watch the least amount of this.

If you watch so little of the coverage, then how can you give a fair assesment of how much attention they are giving to the holocaust background of the professor?

o.k.....as a holocaust survivor, the professor knew and had seen the consequences of inaction...

he saw so many holocasut victims go quietly to their deaths.......and obviously, the prof. had learned his lesson....

maybe he saved a few lives the other day....

You change the channel and that is the first thing you hear. Smurph it is on on almost every channel but im more involved into thinking who the NBA wants in the playoffs. Its kinda tough to avoid and i don't get to involved in these type of things. I got most of the news from this ordeal from this site. I just think any male teacher and probably a lot of woman teachers would have done the same thing. These are basically there kids. Plus the fact there is no time to think of a plan i just don't see the relevance to keep bringing this up. If what the guy did is true why not leave it at that. Im not gonna think the guy is more of a hero because they throw in the Holocaust with the story.

who said your supposed to? i think he's more of a hero because he's 77 years old. that's actually the most impressive part imo.

not knowing what a "george katstanza" is,i `m not sure....

but, having grown up in a nanny state myself, i`m honestly not sure what i would have done in that situation.......i know it`s easy to judge.....i`d like to think i`d have tried something rather than go quietly...

that being said, there is something wrong with our culture,imo.....

No TV down in your bunker?

He's referring to the Seinfeld episode where George Costanza trampled over old women and children to get out of a house that was on fire.

Sponge, at times I too think that the media over-sensationalizes people and events.

Things that get reported seem to have a ring to it when you slap on a title,

largest shooting in US History

Holocaust survivor. etc.

But I think that u have taken this one a bit far, because, as insensitive as I am to the press,

this time it does mean a lot to distinguish him as such.

I mean the courage to live thru one horrific event and to have the nerve to act as he did in another.

That in itself deserves attention, and praise.

And it just sounds better than,

Lew Baldwin, Powerball winner of 15 billion, throws himself at door to save people.

Powerball winner Lew Baldwin , quite the hero.
