SOUTHEASTERN CONFERENCE PREVIEW
This year we have a six team consensus of top 25 ball clubs in FLORIDA, TENNESSEE, LSU, GEORGIA, ALABAMA, and AUBURN that will attempt to continue the rich tradition of solid football from one of the nations toughest conferences year in and year out. The class from last year landed 37 players in the NFL draft with ten going in the first round, that was twice as many as any other conference and by the end of the sixth round every SEC team had a player chosen. The beat will continue this year as an average of both offensive and defensive starters for all teams is 7.2 starters returning to do battle with 6 of the top passers, tacklers, and rushers return as well as 7 of the top pickers. The talent is here and just to show how competitive this league is take this note down...........THE SEC HAD 7 1ST TEAM ALL NFL PLAYERS AND 3 2ND TEAMERS LAST YEAR.
Over the past 4 years there has been 9 of the leagues 12 teams with a winning percentage of .55 or higher, 6 teams better than .600, and 4 teams better than .700. Nine of the twelve teams has been bowling with the exception being MISS STATE, VANDY, and KENTUCKY. Over the past 8 seasons the SEC has sent 59 teams bowling last year going 3-3 with wins over..........WISCONSIN, VA TECH, and TEXAS A&M with losses to...............MIAMI, MINNESOTA and IOWA. The SEC was second to the big twelve with wins over .500 with 17 at 77-60 for 57%. Since going to divisional play back in 1992, the SEC has produced 4 national title winners and AUBURN went undefeated twice most recently last year without a shot at the big game. Last year five teams had 9 wins or more and i expect a close battle down to the wire as the championship game should produce a member for the national title game out in the ROSE BOWL.
