Gotta love the name calling in here. Talk about the IQ of a hammer? When all else fails, call people names.
Anyway, the federal deficit has been created over a number of years. To solve it (without creating a major economic collapse) will take a number of years and firm resolve from our politicians. I doubt it ever happens as both sides of the aisle are too entrenched in the pockets of their donors to ever really do something right for the country.
While it is my belief that federal tax revenue is more than sufficient to fund government expenditures, I would not be against tax rates increases if it were coupled with real tax reform. End all the loophole BS and corporate welfare. I would also be interested in entitlement reform - mainly raising the ages of eligibility as well as raising the salary cap on SS. I also think a shrinking of the federal workforce is in order. Perhaps 15% cuts -(much like the private sector has endured since the recession started) - would probably save a cool $1T over a decade as well.
I think it is entirely possible to put the US fiscal house in order with simple ideas such as these. However, I think the probability of it happening in the current political climate as nil.
