Was coming home from office a few minutes ago and while I never stop at them generally--there was garage sale close to where I live. Saw some golf clubs in raggy ole back and thought --what the heck might find antique set at a steal.
Clubs were junk but noticed box of coins on table--being a semi collector i took a look. Was complete mint set of Susan B Anthony dollars even the 1981 that was never put in circulation.
Now worth a lot mind you but in mint condition and complete set--you never know what future will bring--especially since they were 11 coins and they had price of $15. Now while not being savvy with garage sales I do know everything is negotiable. I ask lady if she come down off price--she said how about $10. Fair enough I'll take them. So I am scratching my head as I walk away and wondering why she would sell $11 face value of coins for $10. I got home and was reading authenticty notes and other papers and had to laugh when I came to this paragraph---

"Her last triumph was short lived however. The Susan B Anthony Dollar was rejected by the public because the coin was too easily confused with the quarter."

Maybe a crack about Kentucky is called for, but I'll refrain. Hey, mayve you stumbled onto something - instant 10% return on your investment is not bad. You just need to find someone sitting on 110,000 Susan B's.:00hour

that is funny, often that is how it works, you can buy the coins for just the value of the silver, or gold. especially since silver has shot up from 5 to 13.

never heard anyone ever selling coins for less than face value before though.

actually went to a local art gallery where once a year they have a coin display and stamps. a friend of mine also went so see some pictures from a "great" artist :mj07:

enjoyed how a few old guys would argue how to grade the stamps for the show, also someone in our share club had 1937 $50 bills on display. in mint condition along with many other coins.

by the way the art is 10ft paintings of basically a X and pink and blue. believe a nine year old could produce the same thing. She says they are worth 20K and up, believe would pay 20K so it would not be in my house.

anyways at the show bought 1986 proof set Cdn. for $11. and three US 1972 Coins in UNC for $6.

the silver in the proof set is worth at least...15- maybe 20.

the US will eventually get a US dollar coin, it just makes sense, takes 30 years for coins, where paper currency ussually only last 10 years.

thanks

We just need to come up with a better one than we've done so far. ...Something like the British Pound would work - very heavy and noticeably different from the other coins.
