I found it annoying, I'm not gonna lie. Not because I think they should have to speak English, but because I just don't like interviews that need translated.

I should be equally upset with myself for not knowing Spanish.

I simply do not understand this. If this is America, they can speak whatever fucking language they want. These simpletons are such ignorant fucks.

I prefer they conduct the interview in Spanish.

You are going to get much better answers out of non native speakers if you allow them to express themselves in Spanish.

When you force them to speak English, you get, the same totally canned answers over and over. Because they aren't yet fluent in English, they basically have a limited ability to answer questions.

Player interviews are usually pretty useless in my opinion anyway (has any player ever said anything that interesting in an on the field interview?)
But if you are going to do them, I don't see a problem with speaking to them in their native tongue.

You think American players in Japan are speaking Japanese when they are interviewed?
You think American athletes participating in the Tour de France give interviews in French?

I have no problem with it to be honest. Many fighters need translators and are fighting out of Miami or Minnesota or where ever there personal migration has taken them. I can always change the channel or if I really want to hear what they have to say then I will listen to the translator. I don't have a problem with deaf people using a translator either.
The point is that English is considered our National language in the U.S. It certainly isn't our native language though. I think as a nation we have plenty of things to worry about. What language some athlete speaks, who is only going to play a game here for 3-9 years respectively, is hardly going to set our great history back.
Just sayin.

Hope this helps,
FDC

I doubt too many hoopsters who play in Europe have a Berlitz course in their contract.
