Kansas City area for who knows how long....
First off, no NHL team is permitted to travel on Christmas. So all road teams arriving this morning of the game.

Ott at Boston. Ott 3-0 over Boston in 2001. 7-1-2 last 10. But Boston 29-11-6-3 lifetime against Ott. Last game, Dec 1 at Ott, Boston lost 2-1 in overtime. Lalime is 6-1-1, 2.38 gga, .926 pct vs Boston. Dafoe is 7-7-5 against Ott, with 2.47 gga, .914 pct. But Lalime 4-7 on road, Dafoe 11-6 at home. Over hits in Boston 10-6 this season, Ott has gone over on road 11-6. And don't forget Ott's ridiculously consistent alternating between wins and losses (one tie) last 13. Tonight time for win..

Montreal at Buffalo. Teams have gone against each other 1-1 this season, each winning on road. Biron is playing a bit better, and is 5-2 vs Habs, 2.47 gga with .914 pct. Theodore is 2-4 vs Buff, 3.44 gga with .847 pct. But don't forget last matchup "dirty" hit gave Theodore a concussion and some games lost. Buff needs wins bad. Habs haven't put together a two game win streak in last 14--and this is start of very grueling 7 game road swing. Next up they take on STL, NYI, Van, Calg, Edmonton and MN!

Phil at WA. Phil is 3-0 last 3 vs WA. Boucher is 5-0 last 5 on road. He is 5-3 vs WA, 1.76 gga, .925 pct. Kolzig is 6-13-3 vs Phil, 2.76 gga, .904 pct. Phil is riding high and very confident now, but WA is 10-4-3 ATS at home this season. And gunning hard for a win.

Pitt at NJD. This is funny. Brodeur is 12-13-4 vs Pitt, 2.90 gga, .867 pct. Easily his worst record against any team. One reason is Pitt RW Morozov. He has 10 goals, 11 assists in 20 games vs Brodeur-- he has just 33 goals and 47 assists in 287 NHL games!! Teamates tell him "just pretend you're playing against Brodeur every night". And last game vs NJ he had none, and Pitt still beat NJ 6-0. Beat them like a drum at NJ earlier in season 5-1. 5-0 against them in L5 regular season. Moro has been out with sore shoulder, but I expect him back tonight.

Detroit at MN. Roloson is 0-4-1 vs Detroit, 3.82 gga, .871 pct. "Gaborik is expected to play" say MN paper. Bombardir did play in last game, tho listed as injured someplaces. Detroit 3-1 vs MN in 2001. The one loss was at MN, by one goal. Other game at MN, Detroit won by single goal. But Detroit seems out of slump now!

Colorado at Dallas. Roy will be trying for his 500th career win tonight. He is 5-1-3 this December, 1.52 gga, .924 pct. He's 13-8-5 vs Dallas, 2.11 gga, .926 pct. Belfour has 7-9-5 mark against Colo, 2.43 gga, ,901 pct. Colorado has lost just once in past 15 games. Colorado is 0-3-1 L4 at Dallas, but those were not in Dallas's new stadium, where Dallas has a poor record and dropped the last two there.

Anaheim at SJ. SJ 7-1 vs Ducks in 2001. Nabokov 5-1-0 vs Ana, 1.94 gga, .929 pct. Giguere 1-4-0 vs SJ, 3.63 gga, .878 pct. Ducks 3-4-1-1 vs Pacific Div opponents, but all 3 wins were against Phx! SJ 5-1-1 ATS last 7 games, 6-0 ATS last 6 meetings. Ducks have lost 4 of last 10 game overall, all by one goal. But every one of L6 meetings with SJ were won by more than two goals by SJ. SJ coming off rare loss and tie, so gonna win here at home. Line now SJ -280, -.5 -200, -1.5 +115.

That's it. Gotta go to bed. Do I have too much time on my hands??

Thanks Stag!

MN papers go on about Detroit took pummeled MN 8-3 in last matchup, Nov 16. Scored more points against MN than anyone else there, ever. Also, MN ticked off about how Det put in first line power play team, even with 5 point cushion. So I can see a fat and bit rusty Det (no practice in last 3 days) coming in MN wee hours of morning today, having to face pissed off Wild ready to pounce for revenge. The canbet MN +1.5 -174 I like more than Det -.5 -175. But neither real attractive.

Goalie for TB? Don't forget coach here has habit of putting Weeks in when you don't expect it. TB plays Carolina next night, a team in their division. I still expect the russian, but...

over has hit 4-1 in L5 SJ/Anaheim meetings.

OTT/BOS
: With Defenceman Rachunek back in the lineup(out since Dec. 8), winger Ivan Ciernik will be a healthy scratch as Bill Muckalt returns. He has been out of the lineup for the last two games because he hasn't scored a goal in 33 games this season and Martin wanted Ciernik play with Radek Bonk and Marian Hossa. Grand Rapids callup Joel Kwiatkowski will be a healthy scratch and could be sent back if Chris Phillips gets clearance to play on the weekend in Pittsburgh. He's currently sidelined with a hyper-extended left elbow. The Bruins will be without defenceman Kyle McLaren. He suffered a wrist injury in the club's last game against the N.Y. Islanders Friday. Centre P.J. Axelsson returns from a shoulder injury. Blueliner Hnidy out also for Ott.

Arturs Irbe is the scheduled starter against the Leafs. "We've had a few days off, and he's a guy who prepares very well on short notice," Maurice said. Barrasso is scheduled to face Tampa Bay tomorrow night.

Forward Mikael Renberg tested his injured rib muscle during the morning skate, then pronounced himself ready to go for tonight's game

EDM/CAL

Boxing Day could take on an entirely new meaning tonight when the Oilers and Flames renew hostilities at Skyreach Centre. Thanks to some absurd NHL scheduling it's been 12 weeks since the cross-province enemies did battle - Calgary skated to a 1-0 victory in the season opener and they haven't played since - but it shouldn't take much for these teams to rediscover their mutual animosity.

Last game was a chippy, fight filled affair and with both teams upset with their recent performances (both are winless in their last three games (0-2-1) and each team has won just three of 11 December outings) expect nothing less than a repeat.

The Oilers were humbled 5-1 by Chicago in the last game before the Christmas and were bumped out of first place in the Northwest Division by the Colorado Avalanche. They will be without defenceman Tom Poti (finger surgery), winger Dan Cleary (knee infection) and winger Ryan Smyth (ankle surgery) tonight.

The Flames are also looking to get back on track. After starting the season like a house n fire, they're now starting to look like a burned out house. The difference between then and now is staggering. They were 12-4-2 for 26 points in their first 18 games and are 4-9-5 for 13 points in their last 18 games. The Flames will likely be without defenceman Derek Morris, who's out with a sprained wrist. Marc Savard, benched for asking for a trade last week, might still be in the doghouse. Whether he plays will be a game time decision.

Tonight's game marks the sixth time in Oilers history and the first time since 1987 that they're playing on Boxing Day. They are 4-0-1-0 on Dec. 26 (1-0-0 at home and 3-0-1 on the road). The Oilers have played Calgary in four of the five games and Edmonton is 3-0-1-0 vs the Flames.

hey i like the stars more than most anyone here but have you seen much of belf this yr? one step slower, of course hatch and matvichuk got abused early in the season when dallas was picking up the tempo, but nevertheless, belfour is having an off year and i think his selection on the olympic squad was a joke...and yes i like belfour and the stars, but their goaltending has been subpar and frankly turco has matched him this year...lets hope they can get their shit in gear in these 2nd and 3rd periods, i read a stat that now i think out of 19 games at home, the stars have only held the opposition scoreless in the first 7 times.... that is brutal
