Pittsburg at NYI..................

Poor Pitt is 2-6-2 in last 10 games. 5-10-3 on road this season. Looking forward to Mario's return next week. They need it--taking on NYR at home next, then to Chi, then Boston at home. Yikes!

NYI aren't much better lately. 3-6-1 last 10 games. Two key defense men out. But they did ok in 2-3 loss to WA in last outing.

NYI 4-2-1 vs Pitt in 2001, 1-1 this season. both went over. Over is 5-2 in 2001 meetings.

Osgood is 3-7-1 vs Pitt, 3.22 gga, .885 pct. His gga have risen from 1.66 to 2.42 in last 21 games sez ticker. Papers say today decision will be made on Pitt starting goalie.

Pitts last two losses were real bad, got them talking defense a lot.

Nashville at NJ..............

Predators 1-9-1 last 11 on road. Today is first of 4 road swing.

Teams have not met since Nov 2000. NJ is 3-2 vs Nash last 5.

Dunham starts against his old team (41 games '96-98). He's 1-3-0 vs NJ, 2.94 gga, .903 pct. But he's been brilliant this last month against everyone. Only one was on road tho. He's 5-1-4 last 10 starts. His last outing was worst since Dec 1, so look for more concentration tonight.

Brodeur is 2-2-0 vs Nash, 2.23 gga, .927 pct.

Devils just chalked up another important win with defense. In 3 of last 4 wins they gave up just 2 goals. Offense should get more productive as A-line at full strength with Sykora back.

Buffalo at Calgary.....................

Buffalo is 7-1-2 vs Calgary since Oct '96--the date of that Calgary win.

Biron will goal, he's 0-5-1 in last 6 starts. He held Calgary to two goals Nov 23 in Buff. Noronen has been sent to minors for some action accompanied by threats that he might return soon.

Calgary 11-6-4 at home.

Buffalo papers say J P Dumont, third leading scorer for Buff, is questionable. And Kozlov out too, of course. Lines were juggled at practice to try out some ideas.

Wilson took the precaution with top defenseman Brendan Witt not yet 100 percent because of a forearm injury and perhaps unable to finish the game, much like winger Ulf Dahlen was yesterday. Wilson juggled his usual defensive pairs, uniting Witt and Ken Klee and putting skilled European defensemen Frantisek Kucera and Sergei Gonchar as a tandem. Sylvain Cote, who had been Witt's partner since Calle Johansson was lost for the season in October, skated with Joe Reekie or Rob Zettler. Later in the game, Witt and Cote were reunited.

Dahlen Still Out

Dahlen, who has missed five of the last six games because of a bruised foot, did not play yesterday but is listed as day-to-day. Winger Joe Sacco was a healthy scratch for the third straight game, and center Trent Whitfield was scratched for the second straight contest

WA at Ottawa......................

Everyone is waiting for the seasonal Caps takeoff. Usually happens about now. They have improved a bit lately.

WA is 5-12-3 on road. Ott 10-7-3 at home.

WA Post sez "Witt...will play tonight".

Also sez "The Capitols lost their previous game with Ottawa, 11-5, at MCI Center and Wilson emphasized the need for strong defensive effort during a brief meeting after practice". I bet!

Columbus at STL........................

Columbus 4-13-2 on road.
STL Blues 13-5-1 at home.

STL needs wins, 9 points off 2nd place Chi in Division. And coming off a close road loss to NJ.

Columbus has had only 3 goals in last 38 power plays.

STL 2-1-1 vs Columbus this season.

STL 3-0-1 last four at home vs Columbus. By one goal Dec 1st, 3 goals in April 2001, 5 goals in Dec 2000.

STL has defeated sub .500 teams at home by more than one goal 7-2 this season. Or so--I'm guessing which teams were .500 at the time.

Bruins playing there 5th in 7 nights

Bruins are home after a very good road trip they went 3-1,very good angle to bet against.

Boston had problems getting out of Carolina last night and travelled through bad weather.

Boyton said said he didn't get home to his bed until 430 in the morning because of the travel problems.

Would lean on leafs if i didnt quit betting their games. ($$$ Man, could be a good one for you )

Jeeze, I was gearing up to hunt down that info on Boston you just reported Sam. Thanks!

Boston 6-1 last seven games overall.
Boston 4-2 last 6 meetings with Toronto. The two losses are this season.

Boston will start Grahame, he's 4-1-2 this season. All starts have gone over 5 goals except the first.

Cujo 12-10-2 vs Boston, 2.18 gga, .928 pct. He shut out Boston 2-0 his last outing vs them.

As Sam points out, going against a tired team coming off road trip is usually a good angle. Even better if it was a successful road trip--they don't feel need for home concentration right away.

Boston won last night, but were outplayed for most of it. Some of that due to tiredness. Now they gotta be real tired! They can rest for a day after tonight.

Toronto has tough stretch in calendar coming up. And next they play home/away games vs regular season tormentor Ottawa.

Phoenix 13-5 ATS at home this season
Atlanta 6-15 ATS on road this season

Teams last played in three meetings in 2000. Phx won all three, the two home victories by 2 and 4 goals.

I'm guessing Burke will start tonight. They will use Esche tonight or tomorrow in SJ. He won his last start, which was in SJ.

AT papers say coach is seriously thinking of using Rhodes in goal tonight, he's 1-8-1 this season, 3.82 gga. His last four starts, all losses, were by 2 goals or more.

After tonight Atlanta gets to return home from this losing 3 game road swing and get to rest a few days. The first two losses, to FL and Dallas, were by one goal.
