AT 5-0
The Pirates will make the long trip to Orlando on Thursday to take on the Atlanta Braves. Right-hander Kip Wells, who skipped his scheduled start on Monday because of stiffness in his right elbow, will face Braves southpaw Horacio Ramirez. Dave Williams and Salomon Torres are also expected to take the mound for the Pirates in relief. As for the position players, McClendon doesn't plan to take many veterans with him on Thursday. "I'll be taking young legs," said McClendon. "Those 2 1/2-bus rides are not easy."
John Thomson, who was scheduled to pitch on Wednesday, will throw three innings to begin Thursday afternoon's game against the Pirates at Cracker Jack Stadium.
Horacio Ramirez, who had been scheduled to start Thursday's game, will pitch the fourth and fifth innings. His surgically repaired left shoulder responded favorably during a one-inning debut against the Astros on Saturday.
Thomson will be looking to continue the dominance that Braves pitchers have shown in Grapefruit League action this year. The starting rotation has not allowed a run in 12 innings, and during that time has allowed six hits and just one walk.

Balt 3-3, lost to Mets Tues, won their two contest before that
When Steve Trachsel made his first Spring Training start Saturday against the Dodgers, there were too many left-handed hitters in their batting order.
"Roughly 11 of them," Trachsel said.
So he kept his new pitch, his slider, in a jar by the door and planned to wait for more favorable conditions.
"Spring Training is for experimenting," he said. "But I didn't want to get whacked."
The Mets play the Orioles in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday, and a slider could be beneficial. So it's likely to make its debut, perhaps when Sammy Sosa is standing in.
The Orioles host the New York Mets for their second meeting in three days. Daniel Cabrera takes the mound for the Orioles, followed by left-hander Bruce Chen, right-hander Hayden Penn, right-hander Aaron Rakers and left-hander Steve Kline.
Cabrera was impressive in his Spring Training debut Saturday against Washington, tossing three scoreless innings. Projected as the No. 3 starter this season, Cabrera is expected to pitch four innings.
Penn, the organization's top pitching prospect, will make his second appearance, while Rakers and Kline will pitch in their third game. Penn was touched for back-to-back home runs against Washington on Saturday.
The Mets will counter with right-hander Steve Trachsel, right-hander Roberto Hernandez, left-hander Scott Stewart and right-hander Scott Strickland

It's one of the more bizarre statistics in Cactus League play.
The Giants have never beaten the Arizona Diamondbacks during Spring Training -- they're 0-17 since the D-Backs joined the National League West -- but San Francisco hopes to break that jinx in a 12:05 p.m. PT game Thursday in Tucson.
Left-hander Kirk Rueter (1-0, 4.50 ERA) makes his second appearance of the spring after looking good vs. the Chicago White Sox on March 6. He reported no problems in the opener.
Hot-hitting Pedro Feliz, who has nine hits -- including a homer belted on Wednesday -- and is batting .450, will not play Thursday against the D-Backs
