Played Philadelphia -153 (Hamels vs Cook) in Game #2
Just some simple handicapping and thoughts on this game:
Colorado's starter Aaron Cook has pitched well in his last couple starts, but has had horrible career numbers vs Philly and several of the players in their lineup. In 9 games which includes 8 career starts vs them, he is just 1-5 with a 5.85 ERA and has given up 66 hits in 47.2 Innings pitched. Five of the players in the Philly lineup have pretty good numbers vs him:
Ryan Howard .353 average (6 for 17)
Raul Ibanez .400 average (2 for 5)
Jimmy Rollins .379 average (11 for 29)
Chase Utley .381 average (8 for 21)
Jayson Werth .400 average (4 for 10)
Phillies Starter Cole Hamels has struggled in his last 3 starts of the season. His team going 0-3 in those starts, but gotta a feeling he's gonna have a pretty good game here for several reasons:
First of all, he's pitching at home and like a lot of starters, Hamel is much better at home than the road this season:
Home: 7-5 105.1 innings pitched giving up only 95 hits and he had an ERA of 3.76
Away: 3-6 88.1 innings pitched giving up 111 hits and an ERA of 4.99
Another key I think is the fact that this Rockies team really hasn't seen to much of him before. Hamels has made only 1 career start vs the Rocks and didn't fair well, but it was the first start of the season and he only pitched 3+ innings. So an edge could go to Hamel here as the Rockies have very few at bats vs him
Also you combine the above with the fact the Rockie are only hitting .235 vs lefties for the season and even worse vs lefties on the road .210 I think it magnifies the stuff above a bit.
Just giving you my take on the game....by far no lock due to Hamels last few starts of the season but think it's the way to go.
