Baltimore/Detroit-1:10 pm Cobb (Zimmermann -- Cobb, after TJ surgery, went 12-10 with The Rays last season, 3.66 ERA over 179.1 innings (tho 4.16 FIP and 4.48 SIERA, was better before TJ). He signed late spring with Orioles, and judging by rust in his 1st start, looks like they rushed him a bit getting up to speed as they trusted his age 30 veteran judgement....Zimmermann is back after being hit on side of head by a Jason Kipnis line drive that had an exit velocity of 105.6 mph. Wow! Zim claims off season nerve block injection fixed the neck problem he's had for last few years, but then he got injection in his lower right back this spring too. 10.1 innings, 10 ER, 11 SO and 15 hits he has so far this season...so I'm on that damn Over here!

St. Louis/Chi. Cubs-2:20 pm Weaver (Lester -- Weaver had a fine season last year, but analysts said he needed to improve his offerings to keep this up, and we read here it looks like he has done that...Lester was down last season (gave up lotta HRs), and looking worse this season so far (4.05 FIP and 4.40 BB/9 with a 1.67 WHIP)...Weaver pitched in frigid conditions in his first starts this season, and he does not like that, but he was fine in them...I'm on STL...

Houston/Seattle-3:40 pm Morton (Gonzales -- Morton (14-7 in 2017 with a 3.62 ERA and a 10.0 K/9 rate) was dominant again in last start, just a few mistakes, and you see here his velocity keeps getting better...Houston has won 7 of his last 10 starts...Gonzales (6.08 ERA in a career-high 40 innings last season, 1.8 HR/9 rate) and worse out the gate this season....yes yes Houston -1.5 (-115)

Toronto/N.Y. Yankees-6:35 pm Sanchez (Sabathia -- Sanchez of excellent start, pitches sharp, esp that curveball, and had ton of movement, he should keep it going...Sabathia typical up + down starts with his all-around dimishing skills and physical ailments (last one was bad hip, and he not usually best 1st start off DL), but he did have that nice stretch last season and he is working on being a different pitcher now, a "crafty leftie" we read here, so time will tell. He's likely not to pitch deep and that Yanks bullpen still pretty poor, unlike top notch Blue Jays... so this dog is gonna be a popular bet, Toronto Blue Jays +138...wow, all this NYY money coming in scares me...

Pittsburgh/Philadelphia-7:05 pm Taillon (Arrieta -- Taillon very sharp and Arrieta is getting there. Neither have that dominating mix, but can be grooving and very effective...Phila offense been good, but surprising number of unders of late, and while Arrieta might not go deep as he is still ramping it up from late spring start, that Phillies pen is very good...so under, and do like Pitt with their play

N.Y. Mets/Atlanta-7:35 pm Harvey (Sims -- Harvey posted worst ERA ever for Mets pitcher (with at least 15 starts) last season, coming off of Tommy John surgery (2013) and 2 operations to fix symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome - which is a very tough thing for pitchers to recover from, and he's been pitching like it last few starts. They like to pull him out early, before batters see him a 3rd time, then lean on the excellent bullpen....Sims (3-6, 5.62 era in 2017) bit touted prospect who faded as he moved up in the minors. He had a few fine MLB starts, showed his upside (fastball and nice curve) but usually has control problems, very inconsistent...

Miami/Milwaukee-8:10 pm Peters (Anderson -- Peters (2-1, 6.75 ERA) two good home starts, pitches to contact and impressive amount of grounders, he might get a spot in this rotation, maybe...Anderson (nice 2.74 ERA across 25 starts last season) doing ok (tho 5.12 FIP so far, velocity bit down) after that 1st game...Yelitch back with his good bat and better defense. Despite those recent Miami wins, this is still a bad team. Those wins and occasional offense just highlight their inconsistency. and 11 of their 12 losses by 2+ runs....Brewers -1.5

San Francisco/Arizona-9:40 pm Blach (Greinke -- Blach does have one good start this season so far! and he hasn't given up a HR yet, darn good for him, but that probably ends today..those awful SF batters had a team meeting before last game and then actually produced some hits/runs, today probably back to normal....Greinke off a poor start, had back spasms at start of it, but toughed it out. He had a late spring, still getting into the swing, at home now, vs team he dominates, and is backed by one of the best bullpens...AZ -1.5

Boston/L.A. Angels-10:07 pm Rodriguez (Tropeano -- Rodriguez coming into swing of things faster than I thought, his fastball fine again and his secondary pitches starting to bite...Tropeano 2nd start offa Tommy John surgery, but he was strong and dominant in Spring, his one start in minors, and strong his 1st one back (tho it was KC). He's gonna love to play stopper role, Bosox never seen him...what's with Boston's play here? Can't believe they could sweep this Angels team way out on West Coast!? But Bosox are playing well, especially the pitching. That plus money with this hot Bosox team is enticing...
