I'd like to know what the Pirates manager was thinking.... Maholm had already given up 3 runs earlier in the game, was obvoiusly laboring in the 6th... loads the bases - and won't take him out - leaves him in for 2 more batters - to give up 4 ultimate runs (3 while he was in there)......
At what point, with the lead and the chance for a sweep, do you try to actually win the game?
I just don't get managers sometimes. Like last night, when the Brewers manager let Loe pitch to Votto in the bottom of the 8th, up by 1 run (with a runner that Loe put on, on base).... Votto had been 3 for 6 against Loe with 2 HR in his career - what did Votto do? Of course, a 2 run HR and the Reds beat the Crew 4-3.
It was so predictable. So was today. Why is it easier to see for fans, what is going on, than managers? I do understand managers have to manage an overall bullpen, but ....

Wow - just checked a win probability calculator - to see how often a home team wins down 7 in the 3rd inning (yes, they have these out there)...
It is 1.35%... .to put it in poker terms, it would be like hitting a "half-outer" - which is obviously less than a "one-outer"...

Well Pitt up 7-0 and Cleveland up 3-0..........and both end up losing..........remind me of losses like that when I win one in the bottom of the ninth and call it lucky...........
