Chenks...I lived just outside of Hartford for almost 6 years. Never was a big Whale fan but along with my 10-15 B's games, with my expired college ID, I used to get to about 10 Whaler games for 1/2 price. I was at the next to last game the Whale played at the Mall (Hartford Civic Center) when Keith Premeau dropped the mittens with his brother Wayne when he was with the Sabres.
I spoke with Wayne Gretzky when the Rangers came to the HCC for the last time. He gave a little kid, standing right next to me, his stick that night and talked to the 10-12 of us standing at the entrance to the Ranger dressing room.
For those reasons, I still call them the Whalers but only when they play the Bruins. Geeky, yes I am
but whatever.
