B's 3rd in 4 nights...All on the road...Shields starting tonight. He had a rough start to his Bruin career giving up 2 goals on the first 4 shots in the 2nd period last night. I had to crash and missed the 3rd period but he did shut out the Canucks in that third period. So maybe he settled down and got the nerves all out of the way.

My lean is initially towards the bad guys tonight on the 3 games /4 nights all on the road and travelling from Vancouver to Calgary after the game last night. I would expect to see the Flames take over the game as it gets into the 2nd/3rd period.

VANCOUVER - After playing well in the Bruins' first two games, John Grahame earned another start last night in goal. He was gone, however, after only 20 minutes.

After suffering a right shoulder injury during the first period of the B's 6-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks at GM Place, Grahame was replaced at the start of Period 2 by Steve Shields.

Grahame was hurt when he stretched to his full 6-foot-2 height to block a shot from left point by Ed Jovanovski 7:29 into the game, then fell awkwardly onto his shoulder. The rebound was knocked in by Harold Drucken. The B's goalie was able to finish the period, making nine stops as the teams skated off tied at 1 after 20 minutes, suggesting the injury may not be too serious. B's coach Robbie Ftorek said Grahame would be re-evaluated this morning.

Shields will make his first start as a Bruin tonight in Calgary.

B's GM Mike O'Connell put in an immediate call to the AHL Providence Bruins for a backup. Veteran minor leaguer Tim Thomas will be heading to Calgary this morning.

``We're bringing in Thomas instead of (Andrew) Raycroft because Andrew is younger and he needs to play,'' said O'Connell. ``We think that's the best thing for him.''

Playing the previous four seasons in the Pacific Division with the Mighty Ducks (2001-02) and the San Jose Sharks (1998-99 to 2000-01, Shields has faced the Flames on five occasions. He owns a 1-1-2 record vs. Calgary, with a 1.99 goals-against average.

Marty McInnis reclaimed his right wing berth on the No. 2 line with center Jozef Stumpel and Ivan Huml at the expense of Mike Knuble, who was scratched despite scoring one of only three B's goals over the season's first two games. The move paid off, as McInnis scored his first goal of the season in the win.

Winger Michal Grosek took Knuble's roster spot and made his first appearance as a Bruin, skating with pivot P.J. Stock and converted blueliner Sean Brown on the fourth line. . . .

The other scratch was defenseman Jarno Kultanen, who is still waiting to make his first appearance of the season. . . .

Forward Rob Zamuner was not on hand when the B's played the Canucks, having returned to Boston on Tuesday shortly after the birth of his second son, Alex. Zamuner will rejoin the team today in Calgary. . . .

After tonight's match with the Flames, the B's face the Oilers in Edmonton on Saturday night, then close the trip in Toronto vs. the Maple Leafs on Monday.

Hey No All....The real sad thing was I had to go to bed and missed the 3rd period. Against any other team, I'd say I was sorry for your Canuck loss. Just not last night.

Anyway, how did Shields (and the rest of the team) look in the third? Paper says he made 9 saves - any of the real testers?
