-------------------------------------------

DR=days rest
NP=number of pitches
RC=record as starter
TRC=team's record as starter
WHIP=(walks + hits) / innings pitched
ERA=exemplary Reds atrocities
3RATE=rating of pitcher's last 3 starts weighted towards more recent ones
...min=6, max=30
Teams with higher 3RATE got beaten like animals Wednesday, going 2-7, as the bullpens un-shined. Only survivors were the largest differential, with Buerhle over Bell, and Hamilton over the un-Cy'ed Glavine.

Stats are from Yahoo.com save for any opponent's batting averages (L or R OBA) and slugging averages listed (SLG), which are from the brand-spankin' new Baseball Weekly.
L or R OBA is listed only if over .280 or under .220. SLG is listed if over .500 or under .400.
======================================
NAME...DR...DP...RC/TRC...WHIP...ERA...3RATE
Bere.......5......94.....4-2/6-5....1.40.....5.04.....13.5
Johnson..5.....101...7-4/10-4...1.02....2.83.....21
...Bere L OBA .286 (uh-oh)
...Johnson L OBA .135, R OBA .217, SLG .322
...D'Backs have won 3 straight Johnson starts and 7 of past 8
--------------------
Wolf.......5.....111....4-6/6-6.....1.44...3.93.....15.5
Rupe.....5......101....3-5/4-5.....1.64...7.30.....17.5
...Wolf L OBA .183, R OBA .290
...Rupe L OBA .344
...only 3 of 8 Wolf road starts have been quality starts, but 2 of last 3 road starts have been (making 4th straight start on road)
--------------------
Valdes...5.....114....4-3/5-5.....1.14....3.51.....22
Gardner...5....111....1-5/2-8....1.34....5.90.....12
...Valdes SLG .352
...Garder R OBA .217, SLG .519
...I'm holding off on Gardner until he faces the Big Unit again (his lone win in a, ahem, dominating performance)
--------------------
Heredia...5....75......4-5/4-7....1.81....6.64.....16
Jarvis......5....96.......3-6/4-9....1.26....5.50.....8.5
...Heredia L OBA .298, R OBA .373, SLG .576
...Jarvis SLG .512
...speaking of the Big Unit, Jarvis was brutal in last after coming out of a game where he was plunked on the arm by the beeg mon; this is not to say that Jarvis isn't a career-brutal -- his 15 HR allowed means he's giving one up every 5 IP; I guess the 26 he allowed last year in 113 IP wasn't because of Coors field; I'd give the Jason Giambi or Tejada to homer at -300, and the homer vs Jarvis total at 1.5
--------------------
Smith.....5...89.....3-1/3-4....1.22....4.00........10
Cone.....5....95....1-1/2-3.....1.80....4.98.......15.5
...Smith R OBA .153, SLG .367
...Cone L OBA .280, R OBA .341
...Marlins have dropped 3 straight Smith starts
--------------------
Trachsel...5...100....1-7/1-8....1.72...7.94.....N/A
Towers....5....104....2-0/2-1....1.01...1.99......26
...Trachsel R OBA .386, SLG .622
...Towers SLG .364
...Trachsel one start since being recalled from Triple-A, @TBay: 6 IP, 7 H (0), 4 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, L5-7
...Towers on 16 IP scoreless streak including CG ShO in last vs Mont (0 BB, 5 K, W5-0); had a 5-1 K/BB ratio in minors
...Towers might be a good hedge with the under, just in case the O's decide not to score any runs; mind you, there's always the threat of the O's bullpen (theme from Jaws starts playing when they enter, if you know what I mean)
--------------------
Yoshii....4...93.....1-2/2-2.....1.12....2.91.......17.5
Knight...4*...22.....0-0/0-0....2.20....10.80......N/A
...Yoshii L OBA .187, SLG .375 (good combo for Yankee Stadium)
...Knight L and R OBA's .400, SLG .920, in limited action
...lefty Knight making 1st major league start after 2 raunchy *relief appearances: 5 IP, 10 H (4 HR), 6 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
--------------------
Arroyo....6*...34.....2-4/2-4....1.59....5.22.......N/A
Sparks....4...115....3-2/6-6....1.41....4.15.......14.5
...Arroyo L OBA .338, SLG .503
...Sparks L OBA .281
...*Arroyo's 6 starts scattered among 7 relief appearances; last start May 27th @Atl: 5.2 IP, 6 H (0), 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, W6-3
--------------------
Sheets....4...93.....6-4/6-5.....1.38....3.15.......20
Nagy......5....81.....1-0/1-1.....1.22....2.92.....15.5*
...Sheets SLG .396
...Nagy L OBA .214, R OBA .222, SLG .348, in limited action
...5 of Sheets 6 W's have come following a Brewers loss (Brew-crew lost Wed.)
...*Nagy's 3RATE pro-rated for 2 starts since coming off DL
--------------------
Fernandez...4...92....5-6/7-6....1.73...6.55.....9
Baldwin......4*...37....2-4/4-5....1.44...4.26....11
...Fernandez L OBA .284, R OBA .337
...Baldwin R OBA .308
...Reds have lost 4 straight Fernandez starts
...*Baldwin last appearance in relief after short outing in start June 6th (52 pitches)
--------------------
Matthews...5...82.....1-2/2-3.....1.14...3.35....11.5
Byrd..........5....93......0-2/0-2....1.53...7.20.....N/A
...Matthews L OBA .146, SLG .342
...Byrd L OBA .429, SLG .682, in limited action (still...uh-oh)
...Byrd one start since trade to KC; 2 RP beforehand w/Phillies after 1 brutal start
--------------------
Oswalt.....5....95......1-0/2-0....1.20...2.88......15.5*
Mays.......4....106.....8-3/10-3...1.06...2.87....18.5
...Oswalt R OBA .180, SLG .374
...Mays R OBA .196, SLG .372 (hmmm, let's see...Astros couldn't hit Milton, with his .260 and .419...)
...*Oswalt 3RATE pro-rated for 1st 2 major league starts; 8 RP beforehand
--------------------
I'm not sure what's happening at Coors...are they playing 2? Rockies can't drop 'em both, can they? Give me Astacio over Abbott in the 2nd, if line is accomodating.
