DETROIT: RHP Jair Jurrjens is scheduled to make his major league debut Wednesday at Cleveland, where he will take LHP Kenny Rogers' place in the rotation. "Don't ask me what's going to happen after that because I don't have a clue," manager Jim Leyland said, adding he would rather keep 13 pitchers than 11. Rogers (elbow) played catch Monday, and hopes to come off the DL by the end of the week. ...

RHP Justin Verlander was feeling ill Monday. "He's got a bad bug," Leyland said. ...

Right-hander Jair Jurrjens will make his major-league debut as the Tigers? starter in Cleveland on Wednesday night.

?He has been throwing great, using more of his pitches, and is doing pretty good against left-handed batters,? manager Jim Leyland said in making the announcement.

The part about left-handed batters could be especially crucial. A significant part of Cleveland?s offense is built around left-handed batters Travis Hafner(inj).. Grady Sizemore and Kenny Lofton and switch-hitter Victor Martinez.

Jurrjens could also start against Cleveland a week from Tuesday, especially if left-hander Andrew Miller isn?t ready to return from the disabled list by then.

Jurrjens, 21, is a fifth-year pro. He is 7-5 with a 3.20 ERA this season for Double-A Erie. He has never pitched at Triple-A.
