Garcia 'surprised' by Eagles' decision

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Jeff Garcia is disappointed he never got a contract offer from the Philadelphia Eagles after leading them to five straight wins and a playoff victory following Donovan McNabb's season-ending knee injury.

"I was surprised I wasn't offered a contract. There was never anything to negotiate over," Garcia said Monday in an interview with Comcast SportsNet. "We never know what it would've amounted to. It wasn't about the money. It was about being in a great situation."
The Eagles agreed to a three-year contract extension with backup quarterback A.J. Feeley on Sunday, eliminating the chance Garcia would return to Philadelphia. Garcia, who turned 37 on Saturday, will become a free agent on Friday.

"We just wanted to have a reasonable opportunity to be respected, to be appreciated for what took place last year," Garcia said. "Are there other reasons why I wasn't offered a contract? We'll never know."

A three-time Pro Bowl quarterback in San Francisco, Garcia revived his career in Philadelphia. He completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 1,309 yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Eagles were 5-5 and seemingly out of the playoff picture when McNabb tore a knee ligament on Nov. 19. But with Garcia leading the way, they captured their fifth NFC East title in six years and advanced to the second round of the playoffs.

Garcia played under a one-year contract after miserable one-year stints in Cleveland and Detroit. His hard-nosed, gritty style quickly made him a fan favorite in Philadelphia.

Blackman,

probably doesn't surprise you either.

isn't that so typical of our birds front office. their pride in flying under the salary cap and their buy low sell high mentality.

not sure how i fell about this, but didn't surprise me at all.

Im really not shocked at all. Garcia would have been more expensive than Feeley, he's 37 yrs old and the Eagles do not have that much cap room unlike in years past. Now if they do not do anything in Free Agency, then we as fans have a legit gripe.

They need:
DL
LB
WR
RB

back up qb is not at the top of that list.

Starting QB should be on that list, Donovan is way past his prime. Would not surprise me at all if he spent more time on the IR than playing qb next year.

Would you take Romo over McNabb next year....We can make a friendly wager that McNabb's stats and team record will be better than Tony Romo.

I'll go qb stats for a friendly wager. How about a hat, and it would be based on season stats. Also, the stats can't mean 3 games vs 17, i.e. that means if Romo or McNabb miss games b/c of injury thats an automatic forfeit.

I bet next year he'll be the worst in that division. Have you looked at the others in that division? It's the NFC East.

1. Eli Manning
2. Tony Romo
3. Jason Campbell (This kid WILL be good next year, count on it)

A no brainer for me.

Thats fine. Lets say a minimum of 10 games played by each...qb

Thank god AR182 has spoken...have you looked at that division,

Eli-- will not have tiki and teams will tee off on him. I only see him regressing. deer in headlights

Jason Campbell-What does he have 6 games under his belt...still a rookie, he might be decent in two or three years, but not next season.

Romo- after teams got a book on him, he did not look great in the end of the season games. He does have a fantastic array of weapons, the best in the division and I think he is the week link of the bunch on that offense.

QBs in that division rank like this:

McNabb
Romo
Eli
Campbell

Remind me of this wager close in august before season.
