It gets old. You have to time the programs you want to watch that you know what time they will be on. It tries to record similar programs to those that you watch and doesn't do a good job of it. It's not that great, after having one for a year and a half I opted to get rid of it.

I recommend just getting a DVR from your satellite or cable company. It records the programs digitally (which is the best feature of TiVo anyway) but it doesn't try to find programs for you. Also, I think in the long run, it's cheaper anyway.

Having a DVR though is a MUST (skipping commercials is the other feature that i can't live without).

agreed. 2muchchalk, u can just go to comcast and trade in your regular box for a DVR. only an extra $20 a month or so... u wont regret it.

Comcast DVR capabilities

i tape whole seasons of shows. shows that come on while im watching games. shows while i sleep. 2 shows at once. long shows, short shows, etc :) after taped you can fast forward through commercials. tape movies that air while you're asleep...............

I had one of the first tivos. This was before the cable companies came out with them. I thought it was awesome. You can tell it not to automatically record programs it thinks you will like. It also would record entire series and start and stop on time. Pretty much everything that the DVRs nowadays do. I also bought a lifetime membership, instead of opting for the monthly plan, which saved me money since I used it for over 4 years. The only reason I don't use it now is that it wouldn't record HD, although I think they now have ones that do. I hate getting nickel and dimed to death by these cable companies for the rental fee. It's like renting an apartment for the rest of your life, why?

Not to pick on you, but did you read the instruction manual? 1st off the similar programs Tivo records is an option and can be turned off, I turned mine off. I am not sure what you mean by saying you have to time the programs you want to watch? You search for a show hit record and it records it, if you want a season pass, hit season pass and it will record all the episodes of that show, simple really.

The best thing I like about Tivo is the ability to watch two shows at once. Watch one show, it goes to commerical you flip back to the other rewind it and watch it, then flip back to the other show and watch that it's great.

The new directv HD DVR doesn't have this option, it allows you to record a show and watch another, but you can't flip between two shows and rewind what you missed. I did read Tivo and DTV came to an agreement and Tivo will come out with an HD DVR next year, I will be getting that one.

just my two cents Tivo is better than direct tv's DVR. Plus my dvr has problems freezing up, sometimes it won't turn on, and I need to reset it, never had those problems with Tivo.

I just didn't like it too much. I don't watch too much TV except for football season and occasional movies. I did read the instruction manual and never saw anything about that option (had tivo too) and it still recorded a bunch of crap I never watched. I rather wouldn't have one I guess.

I have Comcast & I LOVE my DVR! One of the best inventions ever! Love fast forwarding through the commercials. Now, I usually try to avoid watching shows live so I can fast forward. When I do watch a show live, I find myself picking up the remote and trying to fast forward during the commercials... :mj07:

The only problem I have with it is, especially on Sundays, if Golf or a football game runs late and the whole Sunday night lineup is running late, it doesn't adjust. If you are recording a show that was supposed to start at 8pm and doesn't actually start until 8:20pm you will miss the last 20 minutes of the show. To compensate for this, on sunday nights, I always record the next hour after a show I want to record.

We absolutely love our Tivo, it's changed how we watch tv - much like the guys with DVR, I assume. Would highly recommend getting either one. My Tivo doesn't record similar programs, I guess my option is/was turned off. The season pass is awesome, we don't have to be present when shows are on, and you can watch a couple shows back to back zipping through commercials in about an hour and a half.

One nice feature is the slow motion option...gotta love those Jessica Alba commercials and Manswers shows that you can s-l-o-w down and appreciate the quality "programming" whenever you want...

Also you can slow mo sports plays, kind of cool, and leave the room and rewind back a half hour or so and not miss anything "live".

It's great, and well worth it, IMO.
