With the career of Bluegrass Cat coming to an abrupt end during last Sunday?s Travers Stakes, Todd Pletcher can now shift his attention to the Spinaway at Saratoga tomorrow.

And although he may have lost his most highly touted thoroughbred, Pletcher?s focus should be on his budding juvenile fillies, not that it has to be. For four straight seasons, Pletcher has been Saratoga's leading trainer and owns the track's single-season victory title.

This year his 2-year olds fillies have won the Schuylerville (gr. III), Sanford (gr. II), and the Adirondack Breeders' Cup (gr. II). Dogwood Stables? Cotton Blossom, the likely favorite in Sunday's $250,000 (gr. I) race, will have a leg up on the Eclipse competition if she were to win the seven-furlong Spinaway.

Coming off a win on opening day in the Schuylerville under John Velazquez, she is two-for-two lifetime at Saratoga. Being the daughter of Broken Vow, who was successful at longer distances, Cotton Blossom's best races should still be in front of her.

As much as Pletcher?s continued success at Saratoga may be a deterrent to other trainers, Jamie Sanders has had recent success at Saratoga and looks to end it on a high note with Pro Pink. A daughter of Touch Gold, Pro Pink won her debut at Keeneland, rallying from eight lengths back to beat the Todd Pletcher-trained Audacious Chloe in a 4 1/2-furlong maiden race.
Nine days later, Pro Pink surged to a second place finish against the males in the Kentucky Breeders' Cup at Churchill Downs. This Sunday?s race marks the 115th running of the Spinaway, and with the Breeder?s Cup just around the corner, don?t be surprised to see some incredible action at Saratoga.
