Just a couple of thoughts:
I like Toledo in this game but all of the trends really favor Iowa State.
Iowa State has a very good offense but was hit pretty hard on the defensive side of the ball losing 8 of the top 10 tacklers and 7 seniors that started games last year.
Toledo is breaking in a new QB who has very little game experience. The offense is talented and should ease the trial period for the new QB and the weakness of the Iowa State defense will only help the cause. Toledo has a sound defensive unit and the team as a whole is returning 15 starters.
However, these trends are making me think twice about backing the rockets:
Toledo is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games
Toledo is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games
Toledo is 8-12-2 ATS since 1997 as a road dog
Toledo is 5-14-1 ATS in their last 20 games on natural grass :scared
ISU is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games
ISU is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games
ISU is 19-2 SU and 9-4 ATS against MAC teams all time
trends are trends and I don't put an incredible amount of stock in them but these trends pretty heavily favor the home team.
Also, the public is heavily backing the cyclones in this contest to the tune of about 85%, but the line movement has reflected this in moving from ISU -7.5 to ISU -8.5 or even 9 in some places.
