Since when has this word been hijacked?

Funny how "tolerance" has been redefined

It used to be a word for putting up with people WHILE disagreeing with them

Now if you disagree with them, you are"intolerant"

Example: BeantownJim disagrees with the homosexual's lifestyle but BeantownJim puts up with them. BeantownJim teaches his kids that homosexuality is wrong. BeantownJim treats the homosexual as he would anyone on the street.

The PC crowd would quickly label BeantownJim as "intolerant" when he is actually defining the word "tolerant"

If you agree with something, you are not "tolerating" it. Its own definition makes it impossible to tolerate something you agree with.

I thought you would not put up any crap after your dumb comments about Mack Brown last night. Those who protest the hardest against homos are usually latent homos themselves.

That's childish and stupid.
If we can't protect and admire our own way of being, what the hell do we have left? To may people homosexuality is offensive but still tolerate it, bend over backwards.

What inspires you to be on the fringe?

My point is that those that yell the loudest about Gays usually have something to hide. Who cares? You think someone wakes up one day and decides to be gay and catch chit from everyone. Either you get off seeing a naked woman or a naked man. Can't program that. I'm not on the fringe, just don't care and like to tease those who get so worked up about it like Freeze.

Nice post Dr. F... couln't agree more with your hypothesis. The hijacking of that word is almost designed, by "bleeding hearts," to instigate a confrontation, rather than just accepting a difference in opinion...

I gotta say though, the gay issue can be touchy on this forum. A lot of people here do disagree with the gay lifestyle, though tolerate it..Rarely does anyone bash, and obviously you take everything in stride.

But of course the default joke about everthing is that it's gay. If a player screws up, or a coach or TV announcer is trashed-on, a gay comment is never far away. I think that is totaly seprerate from disagreeing with gay lifestyle. But sometime the root of the comment is immaturity, or dislike of gay people.

I'm totally reading too much into it, just for the sake of this conversation, as I know this forum isn't (and shouldn't be) uptight about joking around in posts.

Just bringing up that subjects like homosexuality have several layers.

Not too sure what my correctly made comments about Mack Brown have to do with this post, but your comments are something that a 4th grader would say to his fellow mate during an insulting contest.

I agree, but I think you used a bad example. BTJ, in my opinion, is not very tolerant. I don't think being tolerant involves the complete bashing of whatever you are being tolerant of (in BTJ's case -- anyone who is not white, straight, and I'm pretty sure deranged).

My guess would be that most people on this board are straight (just using percentages). Add that to the fact that most people on this board don't write degrading comments about being gay and the result is that you have many "tolerant" people.

I hope that my kids are not gay, but my brother-in-law is. I couldn't care less because he and I have a great relationship (probably a bad choice of words ;)) My main thing with being gay is that I just don't get it. Boobies and snatch sure are fun!

I am done rambling.
