I am a sports fan.
I am an ESPN fan.
I enjoy Sportscenter (perhaps too much) and watch at least a small portion of it on a daily basis. I read ESPN the Magazine. I subscribe and even own a Fleece to prove it. I am not a big NBA fan. The NBA is my least favorite professional sport. This state of affairs has put me in an awkward situation.
Since the big Mouse owns both ESPN and ABC, ESPN?s coverage of the NBA has doubled since the purchase of NBA programming. I know we are currently in the playoffs (which lasts waaay to long) and the Association would get extra attention during this time. This year however the attention has been as one-sided as a Rush Limbaugh diatribe.
I understand that we are all pawns and the Mouse is simply attempting to bolster its ratings of these games by creating fans and storylines. I know that my opinion doesn?t matter. I also know that solace is in the Best Damn Sports Show Period (BDSSP). I don?t want to watch five shlubs on a couch talk about their past athletic and pathetic prowess. I know I can change the channel, but I don?t want to. I want my Sportscenter back.
Am I alone? Am I the only one that has noticed? Crack open an ESPN Magazine and count the NBA pages and compare them to the other sports. Oddly enough ESPN has a special section dedicated to X-Games (another lesser liked Mouse product) for the same reasons.
Maybe I?m ranting, maybe I?m whining I just feel that I am being force-fed the Association.
