Can anybody help me understand why the Flyers are laying so much chalk in this one??

Toronto has been playing good hockey, Schwab is playing well, and the Flyers aren't really playing to their ability recently. I know that their PP is much improved with Oates, and Primeau might be back tonight, but still.

Philly enters the matchup hoping to break out of a 1-3-3 lull.

Philly is just 1-4-1 in its last six home tilts.

Toronto, meanwhile, is 4-1-3 in its last eight games

Schwab is 5-2-4 since replacing the injured Curtis Joseph as the No. 1 Maple Leaf netminder.

Tonight's contest marks a quick road stop for the Leafs, who are 3-1-1 in their last five away games.

Toronto and Philadelphia are deadlocked at 1-1-1 for this season's series, but the Maple Leafs hold a 3-1-1 edge in the last five meetings. Toronto has come away with a victory in two consecutive trips to the First Union Center.

Yes, I can see Philly coming away with a victory tonight. But with Toronto's recent play, I see great value in the +170 ML. I guess I was a little surprised by the line.

Can anybody tell me why philly is laying so much chalk??

Saint,

I was just as surprised as you are, I think it comes down to home advantage and the Flyers have revenge on their mind. You also have to consider that Tucker is out for this game and that Really hurts the Leafs as it weakens their toughness, and their penalty killing.

I was hoping for a line around -120-130 but to no avail

Leafs injury list looks like this...
Joseph, Yuskevich, Renberg, Reichel, Tucker (suspended).

They've called up Jeff Farkas from the minors.

Anyone know if Cechmanek is back for the Flyers yet? He was supposed to return last Thursday but was a late scratch.

I KNOW THE "DUE" THEORY IS A STRETCH...BUT EVERYTHING STATISTICALLY MAY SHOW THAT PHILLY IS DUE FOR A BIG WIN...I KNOW THEY HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING AND INJURIES ARE HURTING THEM...I KNOW THAT TORONTO HAS PLAYED WELL AGAINST THEM...I KNOW THAT PHILLY JUST ISN'T WINNING AT HOME...I KNOW THEY BLEW A GAME IN PITT....SO I SAW THIS LINE THIS MORNING AND SAID..HUH?...I LOOKED INTO THE GAME AND I AM STILL SAYING...HUH? ...THERE REALLY ISN'T MUCH OF AN EXPLANATION SO MAYBE THEB ODDSMAKERS ARE JUST THINKING PHILLY IS BOUND TO COME OUT BIG SOON...BUT IT IS FUNNY THAT USUALLY WHEN A TEAM IS STRUGGLING YOU SEE THE LINE CONTINUE TO DROP IN THIER GAMES UNTIL THEY WIN....JUST THE OPPOSITE HERE OR IS IT? TORONTO HAS BEEN PLAYING GREAT HOCKEY LATELY SO MAYBE THE ODDSMAKERS ARE BETTING ON A LET DOWN..OR MAYBE I JUST HAVE TO MUCH TIME TO THINK ABOUT THIS STUFF...LOL....

i think the line of Philadelphia -0.5 -145 is a very reasonable one...although taking the ML at -200 is ludicrous!!!

I was tempted to take the LEAFS ML at +170

i agree with all the above statements....but i don't "buy" the fact that PHILLY is due for a win....i think that a team that's won 6 in a row is more "due" for a LOSS...and is easier to predict than a team that is due for a win....( in my experience).

LEAFS are playing better...but i think the line is a fair one.
i'd like to take the LEAFS tonite, but my heart ( or money ) is NOT in it.

:D

good luck tonite soldiers...
