That is trying to quit smoking. I told myself no more after 8/14. I had about 5 or 6 this weekend while I was playing pool at the bars and watching preseason football and shooting pool.

I have stopped buying packs and will go all day today without smoking one cigarette I hope. Have a pool party today and it will be fun to get into a swimsuit after losing 35 lbs this Summer - down from 225 to 190. I'm sure there will be a lot of alcohol there and I always love to drink and smoke - however all attending are non smokers. Wish me luck guys, I need to quit this disgusting habit.

my wife and I quit on Halloween 2006 so we have our quit smoking anniversary coming up.

I do really miss it as a habit but it is a disgusting one.

One day about a month ago I was at a red light and someone pulled up on the left side of me with their window down. They were smoking and I caught that smell of smoke in the air so strong it was amazing.

Another time I was in a store and this woman walked by and smelled so strong of smoke it was unreal.

I did cheat about a month ago and bought a cigar that I used to smoke. I smoked half of it and threw it out.

good luck

you know its time to put it down.

played poker last night with some buddies who smoke. I still smell like an ashtray, and my eyes still sting. I don't see how you smokers can stay in any sort of healthy shape.

Good luck on quitting. I know it can be nearly impossible from my experience in healthcare. I've seen some sad stuff. Just last week we had a lady with a broken femur who took her last draw right before her accident. The anesthesia/pain meds have since made her confused, and all she can think about is smoking. Up and down all night long, almost fell a dozen times, and always looking for her cigarettes. It's all she can think about. I have more stories if you need any more encouragement.

GL Kniefl, your willpower will pull it through, I know it is tough as hell, but u will feel so much better after u quit.

I quit dec 13, 1999, remember it will and will never look back.

watch a close friend of mine die from lung cancer went from 150lbs down to 70 lbs, smoked clear up until she died, very sad thing to watch.

It all depends on you. All the success stories and fright methods won't do a thing. I quit cold in 1982, there are people who put cigarettes in the hole in their throats, I can't spell that procedure, treggy-something or other. A 100 + year old lady died in a fire when the cigarette she was smoking fell out of her mouth with her teeth and set her house on fire.
Stay away from people who smoke and watch your weight. If your craving gets the best of you, take a non-filtered Camel, don't light it, just chew it up and swallow it. Tastes yummy and kills your appetite. Good luck

Kneifl,

Buy yourself a sit-up bench. I think you can buy an Everlast bench for around $25.

Whenever possible, each time you have the urge for tobacco, do ten sit ups.

He might look funny carrying that bench ever where he goes.

Watched my grandfather die of emphazema mostly due to smoking.

Nasty

Laying in the bed. The would run tubes through his nose down into his lungs as he fought them and fill bottles of nasty fluid. His heart couldn't handle all the stress his chest was going through.

Drowning alive.

Can never understand when people say "Well, you have to die of something"

That's a horrible way to go (or witness happening)

long and drawn out and unbelievably uncomfortable

Almost 2 days now smoke free. Going well, went w/o cigs for 3 months once but I slipped up and started smoking again - of course that was when I was 24 or 25. I think I want it more now, I'll be able to do it if I get through the week.

Hey agent, resident goatboy, jackass, sheep fuker, or which ever you prefer, stay out of this thread unless you have something positive to add.

He might be trying to stress you out so you smoke again. He is a little screwy like that.

kneifl,
Congratulations!!
You've done it...first step is the big one!
A little craving then its OVER..
I quit for a year once and thought I could have "just one" my ass.. as soon as the nicotine hit my blood I finished the pack and was at it again!
BE STRONGER than NICOTINE for a couple of weeks ..THEN its DONE!
Good Luck!

Kneifl,

In addition to quiting smoking, learn to eat healthy.

YOU WILL NOT REGRET THIS.

if you can do these two things, YOU WILL THEN WANT TO EXERCISE. No one will have to encourage you.

Thanks buddy,

I already do eat pretty healthy. My wife is a health nut and she makess most of the food in the house. She packs my lunches too for work, which is much better than eating out everyday and if I want a break I'll just buy lunch. We eat out but not that often (very seldom).
