Trade Deadline

This may be a dumb question...but I thought that the trade deadline was July 31? If this is true, how can the Cards pick up Wright this late? Or is the July 31 date the deadline for having your players eligible for postseason?:shrug:

The July 31 trade deadline is for trading players without sending them thru waivers. Almost all players are put on waivers after July 31, any that pass through unclaimed can be traded.

So the Cards could conceiveably pick up Pedro(assuming Boston keeps losing and misses the playoffs) up until the final day of the season?
