Any Padres fans on here? I know their schedule is soft over the next few weeks & could in essence make a little run but Preller really thinks they will make the playoffs? They aren't going to pass the Dodgers or Giants so that leaves the 2nd wild card spot at best which means they'd have to pass the Pirates, Cubs, Mets, and DBacks. I guess Preller is trying to cover his ass by not admitting his all-in gamble hasn't paid off but pretty much standing pat is a bigger gamble. When they don't make the playoffs this year & shuffle along next year, all your trade chips have less value & your farm system is still depleted.
