Yesterday evening, my neighbors daughter was pulled over for having no brake lights and a faulty turn signal. She also had an expired license.

Cops had the car towed to an impound lot.

This morning, I drove her mother to the impound lot to pay the towing fee and storage charge. $130 towing fee and $30 storage fee.

The daughter still has a pending fine for driving with an expired license.

The mother drove the car from the impound lot and I followed behind. On the way home, I noticed the brake lights were working properly. Both turn signals were also okay.

So my question is this....if a cop stops you for the above violation, do you have the opportunity to verify the allegation or do you simply take the cops word as gospel truth?

If this was a trumped up charge, does she have a case? If so, and how? I understand the expired license is an issue, but if her brake lights and turn signals were functioning properly she never should have been stopped.

TIA

Only you buddy....only you.... :mj07:

On a serious note... the cop needs to have a "reason" to pull you over.
You said "evening" was is late late or right after dark evening?
I can tell you this though. If the cop is trying to bust her for every little thing he can....your neighbors daughter must have been acting like a little bitch for him to go for every little tick and tack.
Are the neighbors full blown holy rollers like yourself? This has some "untolds" in the story me thinks :nono:

jesus has a plan for everyone buddy, his plans last night involved for her to get a few tickets

it really isn't/wasn't a case of the "cops word as gospel truth" but rather HIS gospel flowing through the cop

my point being, its best not to question it:popcorn2

actually, i think HE fixed the lights and turn signal once she prayed that night....

isn't that how it works, pray for shit to happen and hope it does, instead of actually doing?

Damn... you guys are rough.
Too late for any recourse.
Agree with Pa though... guessing there's more to the story. Could be she was drinking but this was cop's way of getting her off the street without a DWI... or maybe she was a bitch and he wrote her up for a bunch of shit. Or maybe that's what they told you cause they needed your help but didn't want to admit to DWI?

I love the mockers and haters. Jesus does too.

Happened at 6 pm. Plenty of light. No alcohol. No smart remarks. Daughter is good kid. Pleasant spirit. Intelligent. Respectful. I've known this family a long time.

My feeling is this was a rookie cop. Heard rumor that cops are stopping many others for whatever reason looking for drugs and guns. Violent crime is at fever pitch in Pittsburgh.

Why didn't anyone check the tail lights before leaving the station if you knew Cops were stopping people from rumors & thought this was a "Rookie Cop"

Buddy.....pardon me but I just think you are full of shit.
Tomorrow is Sunday...are you going to church?
If you don't put at least 20% of your earnings in the offering... you aren't deserving to be there you know.

We weren't able to check the tail lights and turn signals until after the car had been towed.

From what we can surmise, the tail lights were working. So were the turn signals.

So why was she stopped?

Nowadays, can police just stop you for any reason and ask for your DL and registration?

Is this part of Homeland Security?

I'm not saying she was right. I understand she had an expired DL. I'm questioning police powers to stop anyone for any reason, valid or not.

If the car hadn't been moved from the tow site and had been check to see if the light were working, there shouldn't be a issue

.......................................................................

The cop had to have probable cause to stop and check her. All he has to say is that her brake light didnt work.

Its his word against the citizen.

Then he can pull her over and check out other things. And low and behold, a expired liscense.

Kid shoudnt have been driving. Why dont you take that cops view and counsel the kid on not driving without a liscense. Pray for that child and mother.
