I received a citation at 7:15 A.M. last Saturday when no one was on the road. The cop ticketed me for ?running stop sign?, which I clearly did not do. This occurred in Arlington, Texas. I have been driving for over 25 years and have logged over 200 thousand miles without even coming close to hitting a squirrel. In other words, I have never received a traffic ticket. What is my best option for getting this out of my record?

i`d be shocked with your driving record if you don`t get 'probation before verdict"...which,i believe basically leaves your record clean...

cop caught me "for not coming to a complete stop",i showed up,schmoozed a little and walked....

show up..state your case...but be very respectful of the officer....

it`s worth your time...i`m sure with your driving record, the judge will cut you some slack...

remember,don`t be combative...

I am in Canada so maybe this won't work in the USA, but here ya go:

Take it to court.

Here in Canada the cops never show up to court. I have done this more then once and the cops never show. Judge then has no choice but to throw out the case. Again, maybe it is different south of the border, but here they never show.

Hope that helps:shrug:

Thanks for the replies and suggestions.

It was a cheap shot because I was on my way to Lake Arlington to fish for a couple of hours. It was early in the morning. There was no one on the road. I did come to a complete stop, but apparently, my front tires rolled over the white line before the stop sign. One of my co-workers who had a similar ticket said that most cop vehicles are equipped with a video camera on the dashboard. I don't know if this cop, who was hiding in the bushes, recorded the incdident or not.

There have been suggestions that I hire a traffic lawyer. But I think I will take my chances in court by myself. Wish me luck.

Go to court and plead not guilty. Usually you will get to see the DA the same day. Plead your case to him. The ticket should get dropped down to something lower. If you dont mind the fine ask for a non-moving violation instead. Fine will be the same but it dosent get reported to the ins co.

Wife got pulled over last weekend for 62 in a 40. Cop wrote the ticket for 10 over. She will send in a letter pleading not guilty (because the county she got it in is 5 hours away)and the DA will set up a telephone interview to offer something lower. I got a ticket last year in the same county and thats how it worked for me.

It was an actual cop. You never even see the school because its off the main road down an embankment. And conveniently the sign is behind a tree!! Its apparently a huge speed trap. It took 18 months to finally go to court, but I didn't even have to show up.
Cleared on Tuesday.

once I paid the attorney 75 bucks, I didn't even worry about it. The ticket would have been like 300, so it was definitely worth it.

have a great one!

How much is the ticket? Your two best choices are to plead not guilty and hope the cop doesn't show up, or, take defensive driving. Defensive driving costs anywhere from $25 bucks up, and provided that you don't commit any additional offenses during the probationary period (usually 90 days), it doesn't go on your record.

If I were you, I'd do the defensive driving. In the Dallas area they have a couple I've seen for $25, or you can go do it online for $40. You don't need to hire a lawyer and one ticket is not going to make your rates skyrocket up. I'd just take defensive driving and be done with it.
