Started back on the treadmiill since getting these MBT's and today I almost did 300 calories in 20 minutes.(205 pounds entered) It took 20:08 with the routine below. Could have done it by increasing at any time, but wanted to stick to my game plan. Since I know what it will take to do I'll do it 2 or 3 runs from now. For anyone intersested everything is in 1 minute intervals. Started at 4.5/4.6/4.7/4.8 for the 1st 4 minutes then up to 7.0 for 1 minute, back to 4.5 for 1 minute. Doing this 4.5/7.0 for the 1st 10 minutes then the last part, 4.5/7.5 until you reach 20 minutes. I know people don't care for the treadmill but if you mix up your workouts and set different goals it can be rewarding. I'm just super happy that my back, leg is doing so much better to allow me to get back to working out.

Jake,

been doing the same thing, but I use the Effexor Elliptical machines at the club.

Will go 60 minutes, either for distance or calorie burn.

For distance will set level 1 and my goal is to keep it at 5 min/miles for 12 miles, but haven't hit that yet, best I 've done is 10. 5 miles in 60 minutes, with 700 calories

gets tiring around 45th minute.

then for calorie burn, will put level 15 and can hit 1000+ calories in 60 minutes with about 8 miles in distance.

I'll do this 6 days/week accomplishing 50+ miles/week\

with a good dies, LBS will fall off...

Good luck

try to alternate 6 days a week

lawtchan.....

How long have you been using the Elliptical and how many lbs are you able to shed a week? Been very seriously considering purchashing one for teh home. Figured instead of relaxing on the sofa as I berate the f-ing losing team of the evening, I may as well be productive and excercise while watching...........Have heard teh comments as well that it doesn't work as well as a treadmill. Just trying to gather as much "real world" info as I can, before making a relatively large purchase. Any help appreciated.

Franky and Keyser--

Saw a thing once that 80% or more of home exercise equipment sits in a corner collecting dust in people's homes. I know it would sit unused in my house if I owned any. My advice is to join a gym and go the same time 3-4 times a week without fail. If you have a buddy to go with you, thats a huge plus as there are times you won't want to go but your buddy will, and that will get you there so as to not let your buddy down, and vice versa. After time, you will also get to know some of the regulars that are there the same time as you, and that will be extra motivation to get yourself there. I've been going to the same gym for 8 years now, at approx the same day/time and I know so many people by name that I get scolded if I'm not seen at the proper times or days. The elipiticals are easier on your knees, or so I've heard---I run outdoors the 6-7 months of the year its nice out, and then use the treadmills in the winter in addition to working out with weights 4 times a week. Good luck in getting a program started.

Good Stuff....When I was using the treadmill regularly I would change it up everytime and will start doing so again. Used to be that on Sundays I'd run for 1 hour and if my memory's correct I think it was around 13km....could be wrong though. I forget the calories but they were high of course. Never used Elliptical machines what you're speaking of. Speaking of using, don't know if you've ever used UDO's Essential Oil....if you have then I don't have to tell you, but in case you haven't it just might make that last 15 minutes a little easier. Take care.

My knees arent the best, so I really can't run on the treadmill or jog outside on pavement.

the thing about the ellipitcial is it keeps your knees stationary during the workout.

About two years ago I got up to 298 lbs, :scared :scared :scared , back problems, tired all the time, knee problems, etc. etc.

started on the elliptical trainer and worked out 5 days a week and went on Atkins diet.

After 3 mos. I was down to 255,

so, for me, its worth it. I still like my beer, milk, soda, so i'm not strict on the carbs.

let's face it, stay away from fast food and exeercise 3-4 times/wk for at least 30 minutes and you can get fit.

Good Luck

Redsfan........Appreciate the input. I too am aware of that stat.I have had gym memberships in the past and I have weights at home. I am in the process of building a house at the moment and am a bit between situations. I am not a big fan of the gym that is near me, nor am I a fan of those that attend at the same time as I do. If I went to a nicer gym, it would not be as convenient which equals, not going as I should. I have been pretty disciplined about working out at home in the mornings, and it saves an additional 30 minutes of drive time back and forth, plus there's no excuses on cold or wet days. The elliptical would be used while watching games. The bigest problem that I have had with them or the treadmills at the gym is not the fact of getting tired or exhausted, rather it has been the boredom that attacks. Therefore, if I am watching a game, I am not really being bored, plus it makes me feel like less of a loser thatn just lounging on the sofa like an ofe.......

Franky.........I did a bit of research on the different makes and models when I was first considering this move. I am not sure what you are looking to spend, but I know that if I actually do take the plunge I will be getting the:
