starting to turn more of my attention to college football, so take these for what theyre worth. im a sucker for dogs playing overpriced favorites in august and september. lots of teams with jacked up prices. one dog i refuse to play is kansas city though. their lineup is capable of scoring enough runs to win, but that bullpen is so incredibly pathetic. they have given away at LEAST 5 games in the last 2 or 3 weeks that they had all but won. not sure why im ranting about kansas city -- havent bet them, but being a dog player i hate seeing chalks steal games they have no business winning.
tuesday:
cincinnati (+100) over los angeles
seattle (+101) over minnesota
baltimore (+124) over anaheim
florida (+114) over st.louis
cincinnati... reds have played fairly well the last 2 series. they scored a ton of runs on san franciscos pitching staff and then smashed colorado on sunday...really just think lima is a likely canidate to get lit up in the homer friendly great american ballpark..was there a few weeks ago and that park is a launching pad in the summer...ball just carries... dodgers had to go to the pen early on sunday because of pennys injury... mondays day off helped, but that whole series was pretty taxing for l.a... and i dont think harang is that bad.. he keeps them in the game and gives em a shot to win every time it seems
seattle... im stubborn about backing young pitching prospects whom i think have great potential... meche is one of them... hes had his share of injuries and had a stint down in the minors recently but i still think hes gonna be a real good pitcher... minnesota coming off a marathon of a series against oakland and now traveling out west... even though the martinez retirement is not effective immediately, i still think mariners will have a little added spark in his first game at safeco after his announcement... not much else for seattle to play for, but they have played minnesota well this year and i dont expect minnesota to be playing their sharpest ball on tuesday night
baltimore...rex, you know how i feel about your boy sele... hes a gas can that seems to get bailed out by great run support and late comebacks to get him off the hook... to his credit, he did have an excellent may... but he is susceptible to the home run and, to me, theres smoke and mirrors behind his 7-0 record.. baltimore seems to have gotten the memo that they should be killing the ball with the lineup theyve got... it only took them until august to start playing good ball... two good bullpens going at it here... thats one area where i gotta give anaheim props.... rodriguez and percival have become the american league version of mota and gagne (well, until the dodgers inexplicably made that trade) ... but im not sure there is a better left handed reliever in the majors today than bj ryan ... im looking forward to this series.. both teams playing well and both teams can score... i just prefer to take the dog who has been en fuego the last week
florida.... this line is just stupid... beckett has definitely regressed since his dominating postseason last fall... but theres no way st.louis should be favored here... theyre really not playing for a whole lot right now... personally, i think theyre going to be one of the most overpriced teams coming down the stretch... theyve had the division wrapped up since just about the all star break and theyve still got the best record in the national league by a wide margin... i think theyre going to put it on cruise control and get a little complacent over the next month... florida entrenched in a wild card battle and they need some positive things from josh.... i really expected florida to be a small favorite, somewhere around -115 or so... if beckett bombs another start, ill take my loss like a man, but still think the line is ridiculous
also very tempted to take toronto, but not thrilled with the price. thought cleveland would be more of a favorite. wrote some thoughts on this game in sharky's thread. but -114/+104 just not enough for me to pull the trigger
