Pittsburgh
(12) Syracuse (21-4) at (16) Notre Dame (21-7)

DATE & TIME: Tuesday, March 4th, 7:00 p.m. (et).

FACTS & STATS: Site: Joyce Center (11,418) -- South Bend, Indiana.
Television: ESPN2. Home Record: Syracuse 16-0, Notre Dame 14-1. Away Record:
Syracuse 5-3, Notre Dame 3-5. Neutral Record: Syracuse 0-1, Notre Dame 4-1.
Conference Record: Syracuse 11-3, Notre Dame 9-5. Series Record: Syracuse
leads, 16-14.

GAME NOTES: Moving closer and closer to a Big East West Division crown and
subsequent first-round bye in the upcoming conference tournament, the 12th-
ranked Syracuse Orangemen begin the last week of the regular season with a
trip to South Bend, to take on 16th-ranked Notre Dame. The Orangemen are in a
first-place tie with Pittsburgh atop the divisional standings at 11-3 and have
landed there thanks to five straight wins, including a 93-84 overtime win at
Georgetown on Saturday. Very much in the hunt for the West Division crown a
week ago, the Irish are now in fourth place in the division, as they dropped a
pair of games last week to Connecticut and most recently, at Rutgers (95-82).
It is the first time this season that Notre Dame has lost back-to-back games
and has dropped the Irish to 9-5 in Big East play. Despite the setbacks, Notre
Dame is still trying to earn one of the four first-round byes awarded to the
top four teams heading into the league tourney. Syracuse's current win streak
started with an 82-80 win over Notre Dame back on February 15th, as the
Orangemen opened up a two-game lead in the all-time series (16-14). In all,
Syracuse has won eight of the last nine meetings and three straight.

If Syracuse was to get past a pesky Georgetown team in Washington D.C. over
the weekend, you just had to know that freshman sensation Carmelo Anthony
would be a big reason why. He was just that, as Anthony had a career-day, as
he put up 30 points and hauled in 15 rebounds (both career-highs), in leading
his team to a crucial overtime win at the MCI Center. Another freshman was
instrumental in the win as well, as point guard Gerry McNamara poured in 22
points, including 10 in the overtime session. Sophomore forward Hakim Warrick
added a double-double with 14 points and a career-high 18 boards, while
freshman guard Billy Edelin chimed in with 14 points and seven rebounds off
the bench. The Orangemen owned the glass against a physical Georgetown team,
outrebounding the Hoyas 60-43. One of the top offensive teams in the Big East
this season, Syracuse has managed to put up a healthy average of 80.3 ppg
(third in the conference). Anthony leads the charge as one of the top freshmen
in the entire nation. He ranks third in the conference in both scoring (22.2
ppg) and rebounding (9.8 rpg) and ranks 10th in field-goal percentage (.457).
Warrick has been sensational up front as well, shooting .552 from the floor
(fourth in the league), while adding 15.7 points and 9.1 rebounds per game
(fifth in the league). McNamara (13.8 ppg) and fellow guard Kueth Duany (12.0
ppg) provide more than enough perimeter support.

Once again the talented backcourt tandem of Chris Thomas and Matt Carroll led
the way for Notre Dame, but the team as a whole did not follow, as the Irish
lost for the second straight time, all but eliminating them from the
divisional race. Thomas led four players in double figures with 24 points and
just missed a double-double with nine rebounds, but it wasn't enough to get a
much-needed win against Rutgers. Fellow All-American candidate Matt Carroll
poured in 19 points and grabbed six boards, while forwards Dan Miller and
Torin Francis chipped in with 12 and 11 points, respectively. A game much like
the first meeting is to be expected in South Bend this evening, as Notre Dame
will certainly not shy away from turning this thing into a shootout. The Irish
are fourth in the conference in scoring (79.6 ppg) and second in free-throw
percentage (.759). Carroll has put it all together in his final season in
South Bend, as he is averaging a robust 20.8 ppg (fifth in the league). He is
shooting over 40 percent from behind the arc and his 80 three-pointers ranks
third in the league. Thomas is a complete guard, as he is an explosive scorer
off the dribble at 18.2 ppg, while leading the conference in assists at 7.14
per game. While the pair plug away in the backcourt, balance is found up front
in Miller (13.8 ppg, 5.8 rpg) and Francis (10.0 ppg, 7.9 rpg).

The Irish may be out of the divisional race, but a first-round bye as well as
momentum heading into the postseason is crucial to Mike Brey and his team. The
Irish just barely missed earning a victory at the Carrier Dome a couple of
weeks ago and should be able to complete the trick this time around, as
Carroll, in his last game at home, ignites a late Irish charge that puts them
in the win column.

Pittsburgh
Wright State (10-17) at Detroit (16-11)

DATE & TIME: Tuesday, March 4th, 7:05 p.m. (et).

FACTS & STATS: Site: Calihan Hall (8,837) -- Detroit, Michigan.
Television: Local. Home Record: Wright State 9-5, Detroit 9-3. Away Record:
Wright State 0-11, Detroit 6-7. Neutral Record: Wright State 1-1, Detroit 1-1.
Conference Record: Wright State 4-12, Detroit 9-7. Series Record: Detroit
leads, 13-7.

GAME NOTES: The eighth-seeded Wright State Raiders' first road win of the
season would easily be their most impressive, as they try to upset the fifth-
seeded Detroit Titans in the opening round of the Horizon League Tournament
from Calihan Hall. The Raiders come into the game on a positive note, as they
were able to defeat UW-Green Bay, 77-74 on Saturday, helping them end a three-
game losing skid. Wright State will have a hard time trying to win its first
ever Horizon League Tournament Championship, as it has lost all 11 of its road
tilts this season and gone just 4-12 in league play. Detroit on the other
hand, has won two championships and advanced to two of the last three
championship games. The Titans enter the contest, winners of their last three
games, including a 72-55 victory over Cleveland State on Saturday. Detroit has
gone 9-3 from Calihan Hall this season and has a solid Horizon League mark of
9-7. Tonight will mark the 21st meeting all-time between these two teams, with
the Titans holding a 13-7 series edge. Detroit has gone 7-2 against the
Raiders at home, including a 68-63 victory against Wright State at Calihan
Hall earlier this year. The Raiders did however split the series, as they won
67-64 at home in the first game of season series. The winner of this contest
will advance to battle the winner of the game between fourth-seeded Loyola-
Chicago and ninth-seeded Cleveland State.

The top two Horizon League scorers will take to the hardwood in this tilt,
with one of those players being Seth Doliboa of Wright State. Doliboa is
second in the league with 22.2 ppg on 38.1 percent shooting from long range,
while also collecting a team-high 7.6 rpg and netting a team-best 33 blocks.
Vernard Hollins and Doliboa make one of the most potent scoring duo in the
league, as Hollins is averaging 19.7 ppg on 47.4 percent shooting from the
field. Hollins is also pulling in 5.7 rpg and dishing out a team-high 4.2 apg.
He was the main reason for the Raiders' recent victory against UW-Green Bay,
finishing with 26 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Hollins was able to
shoot 10-of-12 from the charity stripe, while Tyson Freeman chipped in 19
points for Wright State. Doliboa added 17 points and seven boards, helping the
Raiders shoot an impressive 48.1 percent from the floor and 50 percent from
behind the arc.

Willie Green finished the regular season as the leading scorer in the Horizon
League, averaging 22.3 ppg on 48.7 percent shooting from the floor. Green is
also pulling in 4.7 rpg and his passing skills have allowed him to distribute
a team-best 2.4. Terrell Riggs is knocking in 12.0 ppg and collecting a team-
high 5.8 rpg, while shooting 50.6 percent from the floor. Elijah Warren has
been able to average 11.1 ppg and 5.0 rpg, helping Detroit score 70.3 ppg on
47.5 percent shooting from the field. Green scored 14 points on 6-of-8
shooting from the charity stripe, in the Titans' victory over Cleveland State.
Warren came off the bench to chip in 12 points, while Riggs and Willie Wallace
finished with 11 points apiece. Detroit shot 52.1 percent from the field and
turned the ball over just six times, helping it overcome only 2-of-9 shooting
from three-point territory.

Doliboa and Hollins will give the Titans a run for their money tonight, as
they should be able to help the Raiders keep pace with their scoring
abilities. Detroit has played well on defense all season long and the same
should happen again tonight, as it pulls out a very tightly played first round
victory.

Pittsburgh
Villanova (15-12) at Boston College (16-9)

DATE & TIME: Tuesday, March 4th, 7:30 p.m. (et).

FACTS & STATS: Site: Silvio O. Conte Forum (8,606) -- Chestnut Hill,
Massachusetts. Television: ESPN Plus. Home Record: Villanova 9-3, Boston
College 8-4. Away Record: Villanova 3-7, Boston College 8-4. Neutral Record:
Villanova 3-2, Boston College 0-1. Conference Record: Villanova 8-6, Boston
College 9-5. Series Record: Villanova leads, 50-22.

GAME NOTES: The Boston College Eagles try to keep pace for the top spot in the
East Division of the Big East Conference tonight, when they play host to the
Villanova Wildcats from the Silvio O. Conte Forum. The Wildcats enter the game
15-12 on the season and 8-6 in the Big East putting them in third place in
the East Division, just one game back of the top spot. However, Villanova has
fallen on tough times since a fast start to conference play, losing two
straight games and three of its last four overall, including an 88-63 setback
to Virginia Tech on Saturday. As for Boston College, it is currently tied with
Connecticut for first place in the East Division. The Eagles defeated Miami,
72-68 on Saturday for their fifth consecutive victory. Villanova owns a 50-22
all-time series advantage over Boston College, which includes a 94-83 victory
in Philadelphia earlier this season.

Villanova trailed by just three points at the half before Virginia Tech
ripped off a 20-0 run early in the second stanza to down the Wildcats, 88-63.
Nova shot a dismal 34.2 percent from the field in the game, while VaTech
knocked in 46.8 percent of its shots. The Hokies also converted 11-of-27 from
long range, while Villanova was an awful 6-of-32 from three-point land.
Virginia Tech held sizeable advantages in free-throw points (19-7) and in
rebounds (50-34) in the win. Derrick Snowden paced the Wildcats with 11 points
on 5-of-9 shooting from the field. Randy Foye added 10 points, while Curtis
Sumpter ripped down 10 boards in the losing effort. Villanova is led on the
season by Gary Buchanan, who is turning in 15.3 ppg on a respectable 40.9
percent shooting from long range. Ricky Wright adds 12.0 ppg and a team-
leading 7.8 rpg and Foye nets 10.1 ppg. Ray Allen chips in 10.0 ppg for the
Wildcats, who are averaging 73.6 ppg on 41.9 percent shooting from the floor
this season.

Boston College is led on the season by one of the top scorers in the nation in
superstar Troy Bell, who is turning in 25.8 ppg on a solid 42.4 percent
shooting from long range. Craig Smith takes some of the pressure off Bell with
his 19.6 ppg on 59.8 percent shooting from the field, as he also leads the
team in rebounding with 7.8 rpg. Ryan Sidney adds 13.7 ppg and 7.0 rpg for the
Eagles, who are one of the top scoring teams in the country with an average of
81.4 ppg on 48.5 percent shooting from the floor. In the team's last contest,
Bell scored a game-high 32 points to lead Boston College to a 72-68 victory
over Miami. Bell finished the game 5-of-10 from three-point land and moved
into second place on the Big East's all-time scoring list with 1,335 points in
conference action. Bell has also scored 25 points or more in 11 consecutive
games for the Eagles. Jermaine Watson added 17 points for BC, which shot 45.5
percent from the field in the game. Miami knocked in 53.7 percent of its total
shots, but committed 21 costly turnovers. Both teams shot well from the free-
throw line with Boston College converting 26-of-31 and Miami 22-of-26.

Villanova has been on the decline since a fast start in Big East play, while
Boston College is just beginning to peak. The Eagles have been on fire behind
potential Big East Player of the Year in Bell, and should receive another
outstanding performance from him in defeating the Wildcats tonight.

Pittsburgh
Eastern Illinois (14-14) at Murray State (16-11)

DATE & TIME: Tuesday, March 4th, 8:00 p.m. (et).

FACTS & STATS: Site: Lantz Arena (5,300) -- Charleston, Illinois.
Television: None. Home Record: E. Illinois 10-2, Murray St. 11-2. Away Record:
E. Illinois 4-11, Murray St. 5-9. Neutral Record: E. Illinois 0-1, Murray St.
0-0. Conference Record: E. Illinois 9-7, Murray St. 9-7. Series Record: Murray
leads, 20-6.

GAME NOTES: Fourth-seeded Murray State attempts to continue its success in the
Ohio Valley Conference Tournament as it hosts fifth-seeded Eastern Illinois in
the first round. Murray State has appeared in the final 12 of the last 13
years, winning the title eight times. Last year, the Racers knocked off the
top seed in the tournament, Tennessee Tech, 70-69. Eight of the nine OVC teams
participate in this event, as only Tennessee State (2-25, 0-16) will not have
the opportunity to play for the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. After
this opening round in which all games are played at the home of the higher
seeded team, the scene will switch to the Gaylord Entertainment Center in
Nashville for the semifinals and final game. The winner of this tilt will take
on either Austin Peay or Eastern Kentucky in the semifinal round. The Panthers
were 9-7 against OVC opponents during the regular season and have won seven of
their last nine games. They won their only OVC title two years ago with a one-
point victory over this season's top seed, Austin Peay. As for the Racers,
they also finished with a 9-7 league mark, but they held tie-breakers over
Eastern Illinois that allowed them to host tonight's game. Murray State owns a
48-26 record all-time in OVC Tournament games, and its 11 titles are eight
more than the next closest team in the field. The Racers defeated the Panthers
in both meetings this season to increase their lead to 20-6 in the all-time
series between the teams.

The best player in the Ohio Valley Conference is considered to be Eastern
Illinois' Henry Domercant, who has led the nation in scoring for much of this
season. The 6-4 senior guard is currently averaging 27.8 ppg on 45.5 percent
shooting from the floor, including 42 percent from three-point range.
Domercant gets to the foul line often, and he is making good on 84.7 percent
of his attempts from the charity stripe. He is also a ferocious rebounder as
well for his height, as he is pulling down a team-high 6.8 rpg. The only other
double-digit scorer for the Panthers is J.R. Reynolds, who is netting 12.7 ppg
this season. Last Thursday, Domercant moved into 46th place on the NCAA's
scoring lost, passing legends Elgin Baylor and Bill Bradley in the process.

Murray State has managed to avoid injury to its top players this season, as
the four double-digit scorers for the Racers have played all 27 games. James
Singleton is a versatile performer who is averaging 15.2 ppg and 10.8 rpg,
both of which are team highs. Singleton is shooting 54.9 percent from the
floor and 79.8 percent from the line, and he has also made good on 15-of-31
three-point attempts. Cuthbert Victor, a 59.5 percent shooter from the field,
is netting 14.8 ppg to go along with 7.9 rpg. Chris Shumate (13.1 ppg) and
Rick Jones (10.5 ppg) have proven to be consistent offensive performers as
well. Of the 27 games that the Racers have played this season, Singleton has
led the team in either scoring or rebounding in 20 of those contests.

Tonight's game features the brilliance of Domercant and the balance of Murray
State. The Racers have knocked off the Panthers twice already this season and
have much more OVC Tournament experience to draw on.

Pittsburgh
Nebraska (11-16) at (5) Oklahoma (20-5)

DATE & TIME: Tuesday, March 4th, 8:00 p.m. (et).

FACTS & STATS: Site: Lloyd Noble Center (12,000) -- Norman, Oklahoma.
Television: Local. Home Record: Nebraska 9-6, Oklahoma 14-0. Away Record:
Nebraska 0-8, Oklahoma 5-3. Neutral Record: Nebraska 2-2, Oklahoma 1-2.
Conference Record: Nebraska 3-11, Oklahoma 11-3. Series Record: Oklahoma
leads, 98-78.

GAME NOTES: The Oklahoma Sooner put the nation's longest home-winning streak
on the line tonight as they welcome the Nebraska Cornhuskers to the Lloyd
Noble Center in Norman for a Big 12 Conference showdown. The Sooners, who are
ranked fifth in the nation, have been on the road for their last two contests
since beating nationally-ranked Kansas in Norman back on February 23, which
ran the win streak to 36 games. On Saturday, the squad posted a hard-fought
68-64 victory over Texas A&M in College Station, which helped the Sooners
bounce back from a disappointing and unexpected defeat versus the Missouri
Tigers a week ago. With the most recent victory, Oklahoma ran its league mark
to 11-3, tying the team with Texas for second place and leaving them a game
behind the aforementioned Jayhawks for the top spot with this and one more
game to play before the start of the conference tournament. While the Sooners
are chasing the leaders in the conference, the Huskers are trying desperately
to lift themselves from the depths of the standings which currently finds them
at 3-11 and in a tie with Kansas State for last place. Nebraska has been
looking a bit better in the last week though, claiming victory over those same
Wildcats and then a 69-63 triumph versus Iowa State over the weekend, giving
the Cornhuskers their first back-to-back wins since the first week of January.
As far as the all-time series between these two schools is concerned, the
Sooners hold a 98-78 advantage over Nebraska to this point. Oklahoma has won
three straight meetings and has a strong presence in Lincoln which has allowed
it to post a 56-20 mark against the Cornhuskers over the years.

The Nebraska defense held the Cyclones to just 30 percent shooting from the
field, which included only 1-of-13 from three-point range, after the break on
Saturday, which allowed the Cornhuskers to record the six-point win at home.
Nate Johnson tallied a game-high 20 points, on 7-of-17 shooting from the
floor, and also grabbed eight rebounds in the victory for Nebraska. John Turek
added 17 points, six boards, and three blocked shots, while Andrew Drevo added
12 points and seven rebounds on the day as well. The Huskers dominated the
glass, 49-35, and had 20 rebounds at the offensive end, which helped to offset
just 3-of-12 shooting from three-point range for the unit. Johnson may be the
leading scorer for the team after 27 games with 13.6 ppg, but his 41.2 percent
field goal shooting looks all the more impressive when compared to his 23.1
percent accuracy beyond the arc. Drevo is the only other active player who is
scoring in double digits for the program with 13 ppg and is tops on the glass
with 7.3 rpg. Overall the entire squad is struggling from the field at just
40.4 percent, has made a meager 28.2 percent behind the three-point line, and
also has trouble at the charity stripe while making only 65.5 percent of their
opportunities.

It was the Oklahoma defense that gave the team its eight-point lead at
intermission on Saturday, holding Texas A&M to just 33.3 percent shooting from
the field and 1-of-8 behind the three-point line. Luckily the offense made
that stand up after the second period finished, as the Sooners claimed the
five-point win at College Station. Hollis Price was once again the star for
the squad, posting a team-high 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field,
which also included 4-of-5 from the perimeter, to go along with his five
assists. Ebi Ere added 12 points in 18 minutes off the bench, while De'Angelo
Alexander contributed a strong all-around effort with 11 points, six boards,
and four dishes in the win. Price currently leads the team in scoring with
19.3 ppg, thanks to his 43.6 percent three-point shooting and his 92.6 percent
accuracy at the charity stripe, which ranks him among the nation's top-10. Ere
adds 14.1 ppg while Kevin Bookout, who has converted 57 percent of his field
goal attempts, contributes 9.5 ppg and is the leading rebounder for the
program with just over six boards per contest. In holding opponents to 40.2
percent shooting from the floor, Oklahoma has managed to give itself a scoring
advantage of more than 11 ppg.

This is a case of the haves versus the have-nots in the Big 12, and with a
showdown against the Longhorns looming around the corner, there's little room
for the Sooners to be sloppy and carefree in this contest. Expect Oklahoma to
live up to its ranking and leave the Huskers in the dust.
