marshall (+4.5)
there are two seemingly immutable capping rules when betting the kent state and marshall matchup.
the first would be to bet on kent state beating the shit out of marshall every year when they play at the maac center in kent.
and the second is that no matter how bad marshall looks in the first meeting at kent, expect that the herd will battle their asses off in the rematch in huntington.
it happens every year.
marshall at kent state
(2005) kent 75-66
(2004) kent 86-65
(2003) kent 71-58
(2002) kent 116-76
(2001) kent 89-67
(2000) kent 84-73
then when the game flips to marshall hosting kent, the flashes struggle big time. kent is 3-2 their last 5 trips there, but there hasnt been a single easy game for the flashes.
the 3 kent wins in marshall have come by a combined EIGHT points (63-61, 73-70, 68-65). marshall won the other two games convincingly.
a few years back when kent almost went undefeated in conference play and made the elite 8 in the ncaa tourney, even that team needed overtime to defeat an inferior marshall team by 3 points.
after losing to toledo on saturday after holding command of that one for the first half and early 2nd half, it leaves kent still winless on the road in mac play. i still think kent is gonna playing for an ncaa berth in the mac tourney when the time comes, but for right now they are overvalued playing in a gym where they have struggled with even their most dominant teams.
