BEGINNING TUESDAY MAY 6

San Diego at Montreal (3) 6th, 7th, 8th

The Expos are doing well at home, be it in Montreal or in San Juan (10-6, +$210) while the Padres are falling way off the pace in the NL West. Big pitching disparity in this matchup (Expos 2.86 team ERA, San Diego 4.90), we think the visitor will be hard pressed to salvage a single victory in this series. PREFERRED: Expos in all games.

San Francisco at Florida (3) 6th, 7th, 8th

The Giants jumped out to a vert fast start in 2003, but they could do no better than a split on their first trip east to take on the Pirates and Phillies. Look for a better outcome if they get a chance to send Rueter (+$240, 2.79 ERA) and Moss (+$205, 2.35) against this lineup (Marlins only scoring 3.9 runs per game vs. lefthanders). PREFERRED: Rueter/Moss.

Los Angeles at N.Y. Mets (3) 6th, 7th, 8th

The Dodgers made up some ground by sweeping the Pirates last weekend, but their road numbers are still pretty miserable (-$300) so proceed with caution. The Mets seemed to be on the upswing before dumping a doubleheader to Arizona last Sunday. Hard to get excited about either team until we know more. PREFERRED: None.

Colorado at Atlanta (3) 6th, 7th, 8th

The Braves can do no wrong right now (8-2, +$410 last 10 days), while the Rockies continue to flounder in their road appearances (only 4-9, -$355). We?ll take a shot against the weak links in the Colorado rotation, but not if the price climbs into the 2 to 1 range. PREFERRED: Braves vs Jennings, Oliver & Cook at -180 or less.

Minnesota at Tampa Bay (3) 6th, 7th, 8th

The Devil Rays have proven to be tough at home (8-8 +$410), while the Twins continue to struggle no matter where they play. We would like to step out on the Devil Rays and a couple of their young righthanders (Twins -$540 vs. righties), but neither Seth McClung nor Jorge Sosa has had enough starts to warrant a selection. PREFERRED: None.

Toronto at Texas (3) 6th, 7th, 8th

Pitching changes and extra base hits should be the order of the day as neither team has been able to pitch a lick so far. We?ll venture a grudging recommendation on Corey Lidle (3-0, +$505 on the road), and go against the dreaded Ryan Drese (7.00 ERA and an H&W average of 21 in his last two starts). Not one Rangers? starter is worth noting at this time. PREFERRED: Lidle/Blue Jays vs. Drese.

NY Yankees at Seattle (3) 6th, 7th, 8th

The Mariners are off to a surprisingly good start especially at home (11-5 +$280), but that pales in comparison to the Bombers magnificent road record (13-3 +$750). Clemens and Mussina, have ERAs of 1.93 and 1.80 respectively in their last two starts. Those are tough numbers to buck, folks. PREFERRED: Clemens/Mussina.

Chicago W. Sox at Oakland (3) 6th, 7th, 8th

The As are averaging just 4.8 runs per game and their big three of Tejada, Chavez and Durazo continue to struggle. Esteban Loaiza, Matt Buehrle and Bartolo Colon all have ERAs under 4.00 which is the chief reason why Chicago is fifth in the AL in team ERA PREFERRED: Colon, Buehrle & Loaiza vs.Halama, Mulder & Hudson.

Cleveland at Anaheim (3) 6th, 7th, 8th

The Indians? starting pitching (fourth in the AL) has been surprisingly good, while the Angels starting rotation is a joke (7.76 ERA last 10 days). Even a team with a .245 batting average should be able to generate some offense. PREFERRED: Indians in all games.
