When Saddam is finally gone and we show the world all the weapons he has and lied about for the last decade, President Bush will have to screen all his incoming calls from all our so-called friends.

May all our troops come home safe and quickly...

Now we know why Turkey said no. They have there own troops massing along the Iraq border. Seems they want to go into Iraq and make a little buffer zone between the border and the Kurds. We could end up haveing to kill a few Turkes to. The war maybe easy. The clean up and keeping others from killing each other may be tougher.

Turks go in, denmark declares War on Iraq

Turks go in, denmark declares War on Iraq

Turkish troops have reportedly entered northern Iraq, despite opposition from the US.
A 1,500-strong commando force has crossed the border, a Turkish military official told Reuters news agency.

The Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul had earlier announced that troops would move into the Kurdish-controlled north to stop an influx of refugees into Turkey and to prevent what he called "terrorist activity".

a few passes from the super fortress would take care of those Turks should they pose much problem. I think it's an excuse for them since they hate the Kurds, but I really don't think we're in danger of them messing with our troops.

The problem that can develope is this. We have special troops such as rangers and airporne in with the Kurds. If turkey starts messing with the Kurds they will also be shooting at out guys. The Turks would be making a big mistake. BIG!

SixFive and djv, do you really think US troops would bomb a NATO ally?

So then Nato members have to defend Turkey, lol

also Turkey have applied for membership in the EU but have been made to wait because of the treatment of the Kurd minority.

For turks, kurds are terrorists and evildoers, i think they feel they have the right to a preemtive strike against evildoers, dont you?........

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said on Friday that, ''we don't have an eye on Northern Iraq, but the region should not be a nest of terrorism.''

Gul said, ''I told them that our sensitivity was that the region should not be a nest of terrorism by making use of the vacuum again, and that everybody should show understanding to this. I expressed them that we don't have any intention beyond this. I explained that those in Northern Iraq were not foreigners to us, and that they still have passports we have given to them. I said Turkey supported them in economic means.''

I dont think it will be a problem unless kurds attack the turkish forces

Rebel no we would not. But if they start fireing at the Kurds. If our men are there im sure they will return fire. I said al along and got lots of hell fromit here. The war would be like a pit bull and a rabbit. I worry more about what we have to deal with the next 2 to 5 years. All the factions in Iraq that will want there share of the goods. We may lose more toops then. Its like when the cold war ended. That was good? But it's funny how unstable so many thing have come since then. Iraq I expect will be no differant.

this time around, the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) is very determined to hold back the flow of Iraqi refugees in northern Iraq. Turkey will allow only 80,000 Iraqi refugees to enter its territories. Turkey will allow only 80,000 Iraqi refugees to enter its territories. That?s why Turkey has to deploy its troops in northern Iraq and provide Iraqi refugees with humanitarian aid at the refugee camps established there.

Turkey and the US held detailed discussions during their recent negotiations on the possible deployment of US troops on Turkish soil and reached an agreement at that time. But since the Turkish Parliament rejected the proposal on the deployment earlier this month, the guidelines laid down after those talks no longer apply.

However, when we ask Foreign Ministry officials how coordination between Turkish and US will be ensured, we?re struck by the lack of straight answers. In fact, despite all the intense negotiations, Turkey and the US failed to sign any written agreements covering these issue. Turkish diplomats said that the memorandum of understanding which Turkey and the US agreed would regulate all issues related to coordination between the two countries? armies. But what about the US? Will the US troops remember their country?s agreement with Turkey?

The greatest challenge that Turkey will have to face is this lack of any written agreement. Conceivably, the two armies might come face to face when holding two separate operations within the same territories.

The second challenge facing Turkey is the Turkmen issue. Neither the US nor Kurdish groups has accepted including ethnic Turkmen groups into the Iraqi Leadership Council to be established in the postwar period. Turkish officials have stated that the Turkmen issue might be resolved after the war ends. How realistic is that? We must wait and see?

In brief, Turkey faces two important challenges which might lead to more serious problems in the future. Under such circumstances all we can say is, ?May God protect our soldiers in northern Iraq!?

Turkey has been an ally of the US for many years. The problem with them is that the US left them hanging after the Gulf War.Because they helped the US in 1991, they lost millions of dollars in trade they had with iraq before the Gulf War. I am pretty sure that we promised to make that loss up & we didn't. They suffered economically from this & are paying the US back now by giving the Bush administration a hard time.

We did make a promise to help keep the kurds out of there hair. Believe we did help in that matter.
But there action has caused us to lose a key way into the north of Iraq. This mean we need to air lift in a force and there equipment to. This can put them in more harms way. We also could still have big trouble with the northern oil field. There are over 750 wells in that area to protect, and stop Iraq soldiers from blowing them. I understand that 70% of Turkes dont want us useing there land. But there just seems to be more to this story. I guess we dont know what that is. But it sure hurts our efforts.
