the west coast guru was pretty upset tonight about his bad beat in the indiana and SA. spurs game. It brought back a few nightmares of my own, but im over it now, and can finally laugh and tell you about them. While in college my roommate got in a little bit over his head and had to put his new motorcycle if he lost this bet. I remember back in the early eighties,(tells you how old i am) Ralph sampson and virginia was playing N.C. and worthy and co. it got down to the last ONE second of the game and N.C. was up by one and favored by two. Worthy got fouledas the clocked almost went out. My roommate needed both free throws to win the game. He got lucky, and worthy hit both free throws putting N.C. up by three with the one second left. He was running down the hall yelling and screaming that he had won and every buddy on the dorm hall was so happy for him.We were all laughing because we thaught carolinas coach would have worthy miss the second one on purpose and he would lose. Well virginia called time out, and came back on the court. Because at that time thier was no three pointers, the only way virginia could send the game to over-time would be to make a shot and get fouled. Well Dean smith after the time out had his guys go and sit down at half court. Some of you guys who had virginia remember the rest as the inbounder threw a full court pass to sampson at the rim who proceded to dunk the ball, really after the second, but the refs ran off the court and N.C. won the game by one. THAT IS A BAD BAD BEAT. My worst beat might be even better! about 5 years ago in the ncaa tournament, There was 3 seconds left with my team up by 4 and favored by two. My team calls a timeout and came back with the manager for the team to throw the ball in. I remember Dicky V. praising the coach for such a great jesture by getting the kid in the game for he was a senior and had never played a second in his career. He was a walk on turned manager and this was a special bond between him and the coach. He came to inbound the pass at the end line and could"nt get the ball in play, but did call a time out! during the time out Dicky V. was giving the coach props again, and the t.v. was showing his parents and family all standing up and clapping, they were so proud. He came back to the end line and you could see he was afraid just to throw the ball in. He finally threw the ball in off his teammates leg, it went off him to the other team and a player from the other team grabbed the ball and lofted a ball that banked in for a three. My poker friends who were at the table every once in a while tell guys when they think they got a bad beat in cards, that it will never compare to when the team manager gave me the bad beat in a college BB game. To this day i still can"t believe how a team manager could cost me money, but he sure did. ARROW

god...that makes me wanna puke...my bad beats are nothing compared to that...thats roughhhh

I think my biggest bad beat has to be..

2001...Georgia Tech & Syracuse. I got Ga Tech 7.5...they are 13-6 with like 10 seconds left on the clock...Burns runs all the way down to the 1 fawking yard line...and Godsy knees the game out...6 inches away from covering...from that day on...I have lost every single Georgia Tech game I have bet on..on or against them, its a loss...most incredible "curse" I have ever seen...and its on me

Mine arent that bad but I have had two horrific NBA ones in recent memory, both of the same kind. My team is covering with time basically running out. The opponent inbounds the ball, say they are down 12 and the line is 10. They run the ball up the court, the team I bet on basically is walking off the court and lets them get off the 3 for the backdoor cover. God that is acid.

bad beat stories cont.

bad beat stories cont.

a year ago buffalo was driving on miami and i had the under bet. The last play of the game buffalos back up qb. threw into the miami endzone and it was intercepted 4 yards deep in the endzone. now 99% of the time no clock an a victory the person would walk off the field, but if you had the under or buffalo like i did you remember what happened next. The miami reciever started to break for a run back the other way, well the wide recievers missed tackles and he broke away around his own 20 up the sidelines. The qb and lineman started after him and you could see them just stop and start walking back to thier sidelines as they realize what for we already lost, as he ran it down the sidelines for a touchdown after time had already expired. Made me absolutely sick. I did"nt print that one earlier because it would"nt compare to the two i printed. ARROW

the 'worst beat' of my career happened to be one of my largest baseball bets ever. great combo. i was in shock for hours after it. almost surreal:

houston astros vs. pittsburgh pirates (@pnc park july 28, 2003)

had a very substantial amount on houston -140. very rare chalk, but loved wade miller in that particular spot. he pitched a gem.

*astros up 8-2 in the 9th inning
* pirates go in order the first two batters
* its 8-2, with two outs and NOBODY ON BASE.
* i dont even want to type the exact sequence of event that followed, however it culminated with brian giles hitting a walkoff grand slam off billy wagner.

astros up 8-2. two outs. nobody on. houston one out away from cashing one of my larger bets ever. and they pull one of the more absurd foldjobs ive ever seen

still shake my head every time i see the replays of that game

I certainly remember that , because i"m a huge Pirate fan! that was a beat by a team who really struggled to score also. I feel for you.

fellas, I can write a book on bad baseball beats, of course some bounce our way but it's human nature to remember the bad ones, I have seen bullpens blow tons of bets it comes with the territory, Texas-Kc last yr at arlington, had texas -1.5, was up like 7-2 late in the game, gave up 4 runs to make it 7-6 and hence a loss, you play this shit for the %ages and hope to grind it out, but bad beats are natural but brutal

Man, you just brought back some memories. I was on that game too. I think put a few holes in the wall after that one.
