UCF announces Josh Heupel as next football coach
UCF didn't wait long to name a replacement for Scott Frost.
The Knights announced Tuesday morning that they have hired Missouri offensive coordinator Josh Heupel as their next head coach. He takes over for Frost, who is headed to Nebraska.
The 39-year-old South Dakota native helped revitalize Mizzou's offense. The Tigers averaged 39 points per game this year ? No. 10 nationally and tops in the SEC. His quarterback, Drew Lock, led the country with 43 passing touchdowns, including three in a 45-16 shellacking of the Gators.
Before getting into coaching, Heupel was a star quarterback at Oklahoma and led the Sooners to a 13-2 win over Florida State to claim the 2000 national title.
UCF has already announced one member of his staff: defensive coordinator Randy Shannon. Shannon was Miami's head coach from 2007-10 and most recently worked at Florida as the defensive coordinator, then interim coach.
