RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- The University of Idaho clinched a berth in the Big West Conference tournament despite a night off.
Joseph Frazier scored 17 points and Ian Boylan scored 15 as Cal State Northridge beat UC Riverside 70-60 Thursday night, putting the Highlanders out of contention for a berth in the tournament next week at Anaheim, Calif.
That means Idaho is in the door.
The Matadors (17-11, 12-5 Big West Conference) were down by one, 32-31, at halftime but began the second half with a 20-4 run and kept a double-digit lead throughout the second half.
The loss combined with Long Beach State's Thursday night win over Cal Poly eliminated UC Riverside (9-18, 4-13) from contention for the eighth and final spot in the Big West tournament.
Larry Cunningham came off the bench to lead the Highlanders with 13 points.
Davin White added 10 points for Cal State Northridge.
With one game to play, the Matadors are in fourth in the Big West and have already clinched a spot in the conference tournament.
