You gotz ta be kiddin!! He was part of the African American studies class crap too wasn't he? Though he was wrongfully ousted at Texas, and he has contacts with Carolina, it doesn't mean he's the best suited. There is a cover up going on here!! Fedora is a clown anyways, he did good at Southern Miss but rested on the laurels and recruiting efforts done by his predecessor Jeff Brower former QB for Southern Miss some years back, and Fedora was a hot name at A&M of all places a few years back. He's a farce!! Only thing he did at UNC was help bring in Mitchell Trubisky!! LMAO

But it gives old farts like me an optimistic outlook of trying to get into coaching again, LOL!

What a fiasco in Chapel Hill!!!

Later!!

Feel free to chime in!!

dumb hire.............

there has to be a nerve and a path to the recruits in the ACC with a youthful approach to winning. And it surely isn't going to happen overnight...But then again how serious is North Carolina when they bring in a 67 year old man who couldn't get out of his own way his last 4 years at Texas. He will be 70 by the time his players are in place..please ......Ya gotta get young and ya gotta get someone who can relate in hopes to get at least some of the blue chippers to stick around the area.

Last 3 years at Texas 8-5, 9-4, 8-5. In our weak division 8 wins could win it. Our expectations are not equivalent to Texas.

It actually makes a lot of sense. Fedora did a horrible job with recruiting in state. Mack still has a ton of connections to get recruiting rolling again. Let's be honest Carolina isn't the most appealing job out there in D1. I think ultimately the success of the hire will come down to his coordinators. This is most likely a pipe dream but if they could get someone like Kliff Kingsbury in at OC, Mack helps turn the recruiting tide and then he rides off into the sunset in 3-4 years and hands the team off to a young OC in Kingsbury. There may be more to this than has been released. I've heard Chizik is part of the deal.

Strictly a PR move by the ole crusty boosters still loyal to this no talent coach..

Agree that it is partly a PR move and recruiting tool. Will be interesting to see who he hires as his primary assistants because one of them will be next in line. No way he lasts more than 3 or 4 years. I do not think much of him as a coach, but not a bad move to try to get the program in the right direction while keeping the boosters off your back. I do not think he will be doing a lot of actual coaching, which is why it is important to see who he brings with him.

Well said Bason.....

Both Brown and Miles have won a national championships.....

He'll probably do some of the same things Herm Edwards did at Zona State, and what Les Miles will do at Kansas.....It will be their responsibility to " Change the Culture" (God how I hate that phrase) and bring the program some credibility, Yes there are skeletons in EVERYONES closet if you look closely enough, but, welcome to big time NCAA Foots.

Will definitely boost recruitment at both Universities.

Think these hires will have the desired effect....

Great points 53D & Bason!! Well stated.

I liked the interview on ESPN College Football Live today w/Mack daddy, saying, he matured and learned a lot being on the sideline and doing games on tv, putting things in perspective like that is good but now he needs to sell that to kids in the Carolina's and where he used to recruit heavy from like the Atlantic region north of NC, NY, PA, MD, DEL & NJ, and those markets are now wide open with Maryland looking for a new gangsta!!

Go Mack Daddy!

I'm still in shock that an old geezer like old school says to go young...LOL

Mack Brown couldn't do any worse but OS is right..they need to copy Clemson and hire a young fire eater that can hire coaches that can recruit.

I like Fedora and thought he did a pretty good job. Last couple years there were a ton of injuries and suspensions and they were still relatively competitive in most games. But I understand the change.

I love the Mack Brown hire. And yes, I've heard that Chizek is in the mix...to be the Def Coord and then take over as head coach in maybe 3 years. I was hoping for Les Miles, if Fedora had to go...but I think this is the next best thing.

Hell, if he just runs the ball and kicks the field goal against Virginia back in '97...instead there was a pick-6...they would have easily been up 17....the pick-6 made it a 7-point game and UVA won it in OT....they would have been 10-1, only loss was to FSU, they would have been Top 5 and possibly in line for a rematch w FSU to play for national title...the way things worked out, there were a few upsets and that's what should have happened but I don't think the voters would have let it happen. Still, he did a lot at UNC after those first couple dismal seasons.

Although, maybe we can bring back Dick Crum!!!!!

as a wolfpack fan i am giddy over the hire of brown. mack brown is all about mack brown. he's 67 years old and looking for a nice place to retire that his wife likes - he's said as much. it's been awhile but, as i recall, when brown left the tarheels, he had just signed a new contract and told everyone how happy he was in chapel hill and out of nowhere announced that he was leaving for austin for those big ass texas dollars. carolina was caught with their pants down and what followed was decommitments and a string of mediocre coaches who all put up losing records. carolina football is in the mire that it is in because of mack brown and the way he left them. evidently there is no one on the unc board of trustees who recalls this.

What impresses me most about this thread is tone. It's great to read the comaradarie here. As a UT alum, I followed the horns closely.IMO his closeness to players was one of his best attributes. He became Vince Young's dad, a role that that young man needed, and translated into a national championship. Unfortunately he lost control of the team in later years letting players live off campus. He is a wonderful man who probably will help NC mature. Bet he doesn't let any player live off campus again.
