Orioles-Jason Hammel has pitched well in his career against the Nats(5-0) & beat them twice last year. Baltimore is 6-1 in his starts verses Washington. Gonzalez has been solid for the Nats lately but think he gets hit today. Speaking of hitting, Baltimore can & Washington can't. Orioles hit Lefties well & are hitting .309 in their last 10 games. Nats hitting woes are well documented(Davy Johnson still has his beard) & they will be without Bryce Harper today. Think the O-Birds take Game #1.
Pirates-Will fade Verlander @ this generous price & take the Pirates w/Francisco Liriano on the Hill. This kid has a tough test today against the powerful Detroit line-up, but he has been brilliant so far(3-0) giving up just 2 earned runs in 18 innings of work. Detroit just 4-6 verses Lefties this year. Verlander has been hammered lately giving up 17 runs on 22 hits in his last 3 starts. Tigers are 5-5 in his starts this year & just 1-3 @ Home. Pittsburgh will score against Verlander today & hopefully Liriano continues his fine work.
