i just received this e-mail. i guess it's been all over the net. does anybody know if this can be done ?

Locked your keys in your car ????

Did you know this??

If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone on your (or someone else's) cell phone.

Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the other person at your home press the unlock button of your key fob (clicker), holding it near the phone on their end.

Your car doors will unlock.

Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you.

Distance is no object you could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can
unlock the doors (or the trunk!).

If im not mistaken the remotes are IR not sound, the sound u hear is the chirp, or siren installed.

IR is line of sight, now what i am amazed at is the magnification of the IR signal by putting it near or in your mouth.

Not to long ago , someone said that go as far as you can go to engage your alarm on you car , step back a few more yards and try it normal, doesnt work. At same location place the remote near or in mouth , it will work.(and please no jokes) u simply place on lips on try it, dont try to insert WHOLE damn thing in and press with tongue. :nono:

Heard something along those lines when in school --it had to do with making operated assisted phone calls from pay phones at adjacent stalls--and dropping coins in phone that was next to one you were on but transferring sound to phone you were on--

fact or fiction ?

I think translation was lost due to phones having changed.
Back in old days--you'd dial long distance # and operator would come on and tell you to deposit X amount. Different coins made diff sounds as you drop them in--Rumor was you could call on one phone and drop coins in adjacent phone (which would be returned because no # was dialed on it) with handsets together it supposedly fooled operator into believing coins were being deposited in phone and she would connect you.

Don't know if fact or fiction--

Lots of things have changed--I remember "not that many years ago" a gadget out that would store lots of numbers and you would hold it to any phone and it would repeat the dialing tones of # you had stored into 2ndary phone. Totally obsolete now.
Hell I can't even get the little tokens we used to punch out of electric boxes to work in car washes any more :)
