I am open-minded about healthcare reform, and hope that something is done. I hold insurance through my company, and my wife through hers, and we each also have coverage under each other's policies on a secondary basis. Even with this overlap in coverage, I paid nearly $500 for a stress test last year. The stress test, which was recommended by my former doctor, was clearly unnecessary. The total cost of the test exceeded $2000. I was there for 30 minutes and was asked by the cardiologist (who was treating me and another guy simultaneously) why this had been prescribed by my "primary" physician. Later, the same primary doc wanted me to take glucose test b/c my blood sugar was "approaching" borderline. I told him no and have never been back to him. Recently, my wife paid nearly $400 for an MRI of her brain and spine. This was a 30 minute procedure which cost a total of nearly $3000. Ridiculous.
The poor bastards w/o helath insurance that need MRI's and stress tests better have their wallets out because the cost of these tests is through the roof in the United States.
Yes, healthcare reform is essential. However, creating programs w/o securing the financing is not the way to go about it. Unfortunately, this is the trademark of this administration. W started, and O has taken it to a new level.
