UW works on the math: Victory over USC would add up on 2 counts

It's a game of numbers for the University of Washington men's basketball team.
The Huskies will be seeking to reach .500 in the Pac-10 and climb above it overall tonight when they play host to the USC Trojans at Hec Edmundson Pavilion.
Tipoff is 6 p.m.
Then there's the fact that USC has beaten the Huskies seven consecutive times, the longest winning streak in the 78-year history of the series.
The Huskies are in this .500 numbers game because they opened the Pac-10 season Thursday night on a downer, falling 77-67 to visiting UCLA despite forcing the Bruins into numerous turnovers.
"This was a disappointing loss," Huskies coach Lorenzo Romar said of the UCLA game "We came in with momentum and confidence that we wanted to continue.
"Unfortunately, we could not pull it out. I give our players credit to how hard they played. We forced UCLA into 29 turnovers without fouling too much. I give our team credit for being aggressive."
That aggressiveness will have to continue tonight if the Huskies, 5-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference, are to stop the Trojans and Desmon Farmer, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound junior guard.
With Farmer scoring a career-high 35 points, 31 in the second half, USC turned back host Washington State 97-90 Thursday night in the Pac-10 opener for both teams.
The triumph gave the Trojans a 5-3 overall record.
