I thought this would be good info to anybody thinking of betting this game. Reading this was music to my ears. Been begging for it and finally will get it! No, I am not talking about Leinart shaving his beard! :mj07: But he did do it so he can be part of the team theme of playing like they did last year! The close ND game was the best thing to happen to USC and Washington will pay the price this Sat. Here is why..............

Looks like the USC offense will make some changes and I think they will be notable and productive. This is where USC missed Norm Chow. Offensive adjustments. Fortunately it has not cost USC a game this year. Almost did but they finally are making them!

***

This is from today's Press Enterprise.

"We have to get back to basics," [WR] Smith said. "Matt and I have been talking about going back to the simple things."

Leinart told Sarkisian: "Go back to what we do the best -- quick, three-step drops, quick slants and play-action stuff. They're playing 10 yards off our receivers. Don't keep going deep."

"Guys really are playing safe on us," Smith said. "They're way back."

But don't look for USC to start running the ball more, even with Bush such a breakaway threat, in order to use the clock and give the defense a breather.

"I am not ready to go into that mode," Carroll said. "I feel like we should go with our offense, believe in our guys, believe in Matt and Reggie."

***

But don't be surprised if USC this week isn't a little more like the Trojans of last year now that teams have changed their game plans to stop the team that scored 70 points on Arkansas and needed barely 20 minutes of possession at Hawaii to score 63.

Mark it down. USC just made the right adjustments to be a dominate team in the 2h of the season. Fixing their errors and making themselves a better team! That is what Pete Carroll does best and he does it every year.

I think USC 1h against Washington is a great bet. According to Pete Carroll, USC had their best Mon. practice of the year and is really focused. The team is hungry to get better!

You are missing the point. USC offense this year has been like the Oakland Raiders offense. Throwing vertically downfield. Worked great against Hawaii and Arkansas. After those 2 games teams started to adjust and take it away. Playing 10 yards off USC WR's.

Unfortunately, USC's "young" OC's didn't adjust well. They were forcing their gameplan and they fell in love with the USC quick strike offense. With these adjustments, USC should become an offensive machine.

No more 2nd and 10's for USC. This will help the offense greatly. Taking what the defense gives. USC did it with Chow but not this year.

As a result of this, USC will end up getting MORE big plays.

better make some adjustments on USC defense.

Why? :mj03:

I think given the circumstances and adversity the USC D has had to overcome, they have been outstanding this season. You do realize USC D has played 4 teams ranked in the top 25 in total offense and all 4 games were on the road! Not to mention USC gets everyones best game.

Take last week for example. ND offense only scored 24pts against the USC D (who was on the field for 38 freaking minutes). 10/24 ND O pts came in the 4th quarter when the USC D was worn out. Blame the USC offense for dropping 5 wide open passes. Can't do that in big games on the road! USC O prevented USC from beating ND by double digits. The USC D did there job.

Here are some stats someone else posted on the USC D from last week.

Quinn is averaging 300+ yds per game ... gets 260yd vs a 3rd team USC cornerback and 3rd team USC 5'9 170 nickel back

ND RB Walker is averaging well over 100yds , gets 70 yds against USC D.

The Irish averaged only 2.9 yds per rush.

Don't forget the Irish completing some amazing 3rd down conversions. Props to them but I doubt they could repeat that performance!

And all of these amazing offensive stats with 2 weeks to prepare for USC? Weis should have been able to put more pts on the board, especially with USC D being on the field for 38 minutes. What would Weis have done if USC didn't drop 5 wide open passes and the refs not allow ND to get the punt return?

Again, what adjustments need to be made on the USC D?

It is the USC special teams that need adjustments.

This will be my first bet on USC this year. Remember they're playing Ty LOOSINGHAM and K. BAER suck ass defense. Ty couldn't make adjustments if Jesus Christ gave him a game plan. USC will beat this team by 40pts or more. Although I'm still leaning towards a first half bet - I think USC gets it going fast.

I think 1h is the best bet. I think you will see a crisp and focused USC team. ND gave USC a huge wake up call and the team isn't happy that it was so close and it showed in practice this week.

You are right TY doesn't make adjustments.

Just an FYI. Reggie Bush is not 100% with his knee and now hip. He got hurt when ND player hit him when he was standing in End Zone. Why a ref didn't call a PF is beyond me. You are not allowed to hit a player who is standing in endzone. That is definition of a PF. Slowing down before entering the end zone is not considered showboating. But refs called USC PF when USC D stopped ND on their own 7 yard line. (gave ND 1st down instead of punting)

Bush sat out practice but will suit up and play. He wants that heisman bad but I would personally sit him out of this game.

I don't know about that :) but Matt shaved his beard! I think it was in papers Matt was at Victory Secret party with Hilton, Loahan, and Matthew Perry.

I think Leinart will be on fire in the 2h of season. USC played "most" of their toughest games in 1h and way too many games on the road. After this weekend, USC gets 4 of their last 5 at home. Next 3 opponents Washington, WSU and Stanford will get this USC team in a groove to close out the season against 3 tough opponents.

Scott - CMON now - Bush started showboating 10 yards before he reached the end zone pointing up at NDs student section. I'm glad Zibby layed the wood on him. BTW - Bush himself said he was showboating and he needed to be a better leader than to SHOWBOAT like that and held no ill will towards Zibby.

Also, you keep forgetting the phantom personal foul on C. Frome which gave USC a first and goal instead of third and 17...

Let's end the fight right now and move on... We both need to get back on track for this weekends game. GL scott

You are right about USC motivation, JGN is right about the Huskies. Sagarin rates USC with100.85, UW with 62.09. Add 3 points for home-field, SC should be 35+ point favorites. Just like the Longhorns, these SC jocks want to do their very best Tarzan imitations. The Janes get raped, Tarzans cover!

So Cal
I agree with you Scott and feel that playing USC in the first half (-17) is a strong play. The Trojans would like to rest some guys and give Booty some playing time. He hasn't been able to get in because the games have been relatively close until the 4th. So I look for USC to come out strong and give the Huskies a first half beating so Leinhart can come out second half or at least 4th quarter. It also goes against the grain in that USC has been a poor first half team and a strong second half team. But I think that will change today.
