well its finally here

As most of you know, I am very close to the tech program and they made me a lot of cash in the late 90s and 2000. That seems like so long ago, now they just can not get much of anything right. Today they are catching a ton of points and lots of folks especially around here love that, so maybe our locals will give us a generous line to boot.

Ill start with usc. Forget about williams not playing, it shouldnt matter. Last year, leinart just went out and played, this year he has suddenly become BMOC, if it doesnt go to his head he will win the heisman, but you never know how people react when they are expected to do so well. Chow is a great offensive mind, if he decides to throw the ball down field, this will get out of hand early(more on this later). lots of times he will play it more conservatively in the first half then open it up later. Quite frankly VT can not cover downfield. Furthermore, USC defense should shut down the hokies.

You can see where I am going with this.

On the Hokies side, we have Randall back, grove is gone to the nfl, hll randall missed played snaps from all american jake grove 3or4 times a game, look for alot of this today with a new center. Humes is prone to fumble but other than that is a solid back that beats up on defenses, however with no passing attack he should be shut down today.

On the tech d, 2 williams has been running mouth for weeks now, and Beamer issued a gag order after his comments. The thing about this is that he is not all that good to begin with just another corner who is fast and thinks that is all it takes, you still have to cover. Look for 1 Green on the other side and the same goes, just can not cover the deep ball. 8 FS Fuller will hit the hll out of you, but its usually 18 yards down field or so. Look for USc to convert many 3rd downs on this new tech dee. No 25 michael crawford, no 6 vegas robinson, only baaqee back to steady the d. Stop adibi from the rush, gets lots of times to pass and burn these guys down the field.

Special teams advantage always is on Techs side, but usc just needs to avoid mistakes in this area to prevent momentum for tech who lives on special team mistakes.

Having said all this, I still believe the hokies will have a stellar season in the ACC, its just they have trouble when they play a great offensive team who can throw all over the place. My heart says tech but my wallet says otherwise, I nevr bet with my heart.

Being the first game of the year, i will not call it a GOY(LOL) but this should be quite easy. The only way i see tech covering is by the back door, i will be surprised if usc is never covering in this game. The back door scares me here, also Leinart scares me a bit with all his suppose to this year(, just go out and play, like last year ). Chow open it up and we could get the number fairly easily.

These factors have me playing this game at a 7x clip. I talked to someone yesterday who runs a service and he too is on tech, which is good cause he is the only other service I actually respect.

Sorry for the long writeup, but this is how i see it, nothing is guaranteed but ill lay the number

USC 700

tech still goes 10-2, but usc is good enough to get them today but a big margin

USC 47
tech 16

gl, lets start the season right

one more quick comment about the williams situation at usc. i could care less thats he is not eligible. he was told beforehand if they appealed and won the appeal he would not be allowed to play in college after deciding to leave early. He chose to go anyway so now he should just live with the decision cause someone was pointing him in the wrong direction, so do not say how bad you feel for him. H e will sit this year, get drafted next and make millions, he should have thought it thru before leaving so early. You know what they say, you made your bed you lay in it.

I am out of here, my bro lives in dc about 20 minutes from the field, see you there. Hokiefan are you in BB.

memphis great write-up excpet for one part...

Special teams advantage always is on Techs side, but usc just needs to avoid mistakes in this area to prevent momentum for tech who lives on special team mistakes.

USC has the special teams advantage in this game. Tom Malone is the best punter in the country. He would have won the award last year but he did not qualify because USC offense did not get him enough punt attempts. USC kicker Killeen set USC FG record with most FG's made last year. He is pretty good but def. not automatic. (choked against CAL in triple OT) :cursin:

USC has Reggie Bush (the most electrifying player in NCAA) as their punt and kickoff returner. He runs legit 4.3 and is great at making people miss. At the very least he is a top 5 return man in NCAA. V-Tech will be starting a new punt returner and I believe he is a true freshman.

As for blocked punts/FG's I "think" USC had more than Tech last year or was right up there.

Also USC is pretty consistent at putting the ball in the end zone on kickoffs (not sure how Tech is). As for kickoff coverage, we all know that USC has major advantage here because USC has more depth than V-Tech and these are 4star/5star players as kickoff coverage guys.

Special Teams advantage USC!

Other than that you were pretty much right on in your write-up. GOOD LUCK today & the season and I obviously will be rooting for you. I am counting down the minutes till kickoff. :)
