Senior Mackenzi Adams will be Vanderbilt's starting quarterback this week at Florida and is likely to remain in that role for the rest of the season.
Coach Bobby Johnson confirmed Sunday night that Larry Smith has "a pretty severe strain and possibly a tear" of his left hamstring, an injury that the sophomore suffered in the first quarter of Vanderbilt's 56-31 loss to Georgia Tech on Saturday.
"It's going to be hard for him to get back," Johnson said of Smith, a sophomore, who started the Music City Bowl last year and all nine games this season. Smith had an MRI on Sunday.
Adams will get his 10th career start and first start since the Florida game last year, which the Gators won 42-14. He was 12-of-22 for 152 yards Saturday in relief of Smith, who came up lame at the end of a 35-yard run
