I realize after viewing this forum that so many of you are a generation behind myself. I was curious as to are any of you Vietnam Veterans. If you are, are any of you a member of the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club? Would like to hear from you. I realize that this forum is much younger than myself (59) and at times feel that I don't belong to this group. Any older VETS out there? Thanks, Chitch

McGruder,

There are other regular members in this forum who are your age or older. During the Vietnam conflict, I was in the Navy stationed on Okinawa. I don't own a motorcycle, but I still have all my hair. How's life in the frozen tundra? I work on the railroad and many of the guys I work with own motorcycles and belong to motorcycle clubs. Appearance wise, one would think they're the last people on earth to do anything decent for another human being, but they hold fund raisers and charity drives for people in need on a regular basis. Sure surprised me. Anyway, motorcycle bum or not, welcome to Madjacks. It's a fun place to hang out.

Not a bike enthusiast--anymore
When I was 17 I believe I made worst deal in my life--traded a nice 55 belair convertable for 250 Honda scrambler--even swap. :(
Gased up one evening late and was BSing with buddy that pumped gas--and straightened up on bike while conversing for few mintues (but forgot to put kick-stand up) Trying to be a hot dog I let it rip while leaving--kickstand caught when leaning in curve and catapulted my ass about 30ft in a yard/bush nearby.:)
Didn't hurt bike much--me neither except my pride--bout 2 weeks later truck pulled out in front of me and had to lay it down and slid in parking lot pinning me and bike under under parked car--not hurt bad but side pipes burnt piss out of my leg.
Was last time I got on one and if you gave me new harley today on condition I had to ride it a 1000 miles I wouldn't take it.

Next beer's on me SP..... 1st Cav myself. AnKhe, Pleiku first few months. Ended up in ChuLai near Danang. Spent almost 13 months in Nam. Tried to extend so I could get an early out but my brother begged me to come home so he could come over with his unit. My poor mom!! :s1: I get home and now she has to spend another sleepless year worrying each day about her other son. Twentyfive months after the day I left she had us both kissing her good-night :toast:

I guess there are a few of us out here. Thanks for responding. Been riding for 45-50 years now and have been down twice myself. Minor, but down on the pavement. Have two bikes, a Harley Softail and a new 1800 gold wing. Enjoy both very much even though it's going to be -40 degrees here tonight. Can't wait till spring. Envy you all that are in warmer climates. Dopeslayer, like your avatar. Those are the Carlson brothers and they are from my home town, though they are younger than myself. Gotta run, going ice fishing this weekend. COOOOOLLLDDDD HERE!

Trollin'....I was based in AnKhe, for awhile also. I guess all the 1st cav. was at some point.

I spent most of my time in the "boonies". Every so often we got to guard a bridge for a couple days. That was better than hacking our way thru the jungle. I certainly don't miss a minute of it....monsoon, snipers, air assaults, just the smell of it.

Glad you and your bro both made it. My mon drank herself silly and had to go to AA. It had to be tough having 2 boys over there.

Beers for us whenever we meet.....
