The suspensions against Villanova took effect over the weekend, which forced
the team to play with just two reserves, who took no shots, grab zero rebounds
and have just three fouls on their collective stat line. And even with having
to go with the staring five almost the entire way, the Wildcats still lost by
just two points at home to seventh-ranked Pittsburgh. Instead of having sniper
Gary Buchanan and power forward Ricky Wright, two of the suspended, leading
the squad on the floor, the 'Cats are having to rely more on players like
Derrick Snowden and Allan Ray to make a run in the tournament. Ray is the
leading scorer among the remaining players, hitting for 10.2 ppg, while Randy
Foye adds 10.1 ppg. Unfortunately, both those players are having less than
productive year's from the field, Ray shooting just 38.3 percent from the
field and 31.7 percent behind the three-point line, while Foye is converting
36.6 percent of his field goal attempts and a miserable 28.9 percent beyond
the arc. Snowden (8.2 ppg), who is shooting just 64.6 percent at the free-
throw line, has been responsible for more than three and a half assists per
outing, but many of those were the result of Buchanan scores.
